STEVE AND JOE SHINE IN BOTH SNOOKER AND BILLIARDS

STEVE HAWKINS
TANSLEY POTTERS bounced back to winning ways in thrilling style in this week's T & M Motors Snooker League programme with a 4-1 victory not quite telling the whole story against plucky opponents Crich Comrades who played their part in an enthralling contest.
Paul Trevett struck first for the visitors with a 59-26 verdict before Steve Hawkins came from well adrift to force a re-spotted black which he eventually took to equalise.
Another tight encounter ensued in frame three before Radford Neville got over the line 54-46 and Joe Neville's 60-46 triumph in the next would also have seen the black re-spotted had the final ball gone the other way.
But we didn't have to wait long for that to happen as in the doubles leg, as the scores were locked at 66 apiece with all the balls down but it was the Nevilles who emerged victorious again in the shootout to rubber stamp a great night for the hosts.

Edgefold No 1 extended their lead at the top of the table with a 4-1 defeat of their No2 team. Roy Taylor struck first for the underdogs but Steve Burton's 26 break in the next transformed the contest and he teamed up with James Travis to rubber stamp the win in the concluding doubles leg.

Belper Royal British Legion saw off second placed Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 4-1 with Wayne Shooter and Mark Newby on target in both singles and doubles legs whilst Ben Monk defied the extra handicap to earn the short-handed visitors their point.

The Alfreton derby saw the No1 team defeat the No3 team 4-1 to go third in the table with some very consistent scoring throughout the team which saw all players notching 60-plus points with Phil Longden making the game safe before the two Lowes each with runs of 20 finally got their team on the scoreboard in the pairs leg.

Clay Cross Brotherhood went fourth with a game in hand as Graham Jones and Paul Roe each came from behind to snatch black ball wins after Ian Doe had put the hosts into the early advantage but Tony Blant made sure the visitors took the victory in frame four with a solid display.

Lee Hage continued his break-building masterclass in the competitions with a run of 35 as he reached the semi-finals of the Open Individual Handicap.

The Elliott Carpets Billiards League saw Bolehill Institute edge to the top of the table by a single point having started the week at the bottom, courtesy of a 14-9 win over Mayfield Institute.
Though in the non-handicapped Kenworthy Cup scotch doubles event a couple of nights later, Mayfield took their revenge 200-166 with Mark Jennings man of the match.
The highlight of that competition so far was a superb break of 48 from Steve Hawkins and Joe Neville following up runs of 30 and 25 as they overcame an early deficit to pull clear of Whitworth Institute 200-140 and book their place in the final.
