EDGEFOLD No 1 STAVE OFF GREAT ALFRETON FIGHTBACK

RICHARD FERGUSON ... decisive scotch doubles break with Andy Russell

EDGEFOLD No 1 continued their winning streak by lifting the first team silverware of the season courtesy of a thrilling 4-3 Bob McCartin Six Red Cup final win over Alfreton Palmer Morewood.
Having spun a coin for venue, Edgefold held home advantage and were soon setting the pace with victories by Richard Ferguson (22 break) and Andy Russell (21 break).
An emphatic third frame win courtesy of Robert Muxlow put them on the cusp of success but from thereon Alfreton staged a great rally.

KEVIN ROWLAND ... started the comeback for ALFRETON

Kevin Rowland, a fine tactical exponent, came from well adrift against Duncan Harwood to take the contest 44-34 with the latter player potting the black and going in off into the middle pocket when he looked set for the frame.
And after the visitors had taken the first two scotch doubles frames courtesy of Simon Mayes and Ralph Edgson and Andrew Beardsley and Will Salt, it all rested on the decider.
Ferguson and Russell sprung back into timely action to combine superbly for a decisive 38 break which also takes the prize for the top break in that particular format for the Presidents Cup.

Elsewhere, there was J K Interiors and Joinery Services League action with Belper Strutt No 2 and Edgefold No 2 each scoring 4-1 wins over teams who were challenging for the runners up spot in Bolehill No 2 and Jaxx Q Club of Belper.

Keith Robertson's 41 break for Bolehill was their only real highlight whilst Keith Hubbold top scored for Strutt with Chris Stubbs winning each of his singles and doubles frames on the black.

Rob Dicken top scored for the Matlock team and the game was safe before Shaun Smith's riposte for Jaxx which included breaks of 24 and 20.
