ELEMENTARY AS HOLMES STEERS HOME MATLOCK CLUB

PAUL HOLMES ... T & M Motors Player of the Week
AFTER several narrow misses, Matlock Club opened their league account for the season with a 3-2 defeat of Alfreton Palmer Morewood with Mick Mackfall and Paul Holmes securing the doubles leg to scenes of great jubilation on Dale Road.
Holmes edged a tight opening frame 46-40 before Des Smith equalised in the next.
Paul Bryan in another tight contest triumphed 57-49 in frame three but the teams remained lock together after John Smith's win on a re-spotted black in the fourth.
Step forward Holmes and Mackfall to seal the deal, with Paul Holmes earning himself the T & M Motors Player of the Week award in the process.
It was all change at the top of the table with Matlock Golf Club inactive, Edgefold No 2 took full advantage by striking the top for the first time this season courtesy of a 5-0 win over Bolehill No 1.
Rob Dicken struck a break of 29 and Sean Dobney had runs of 25 and 20 as they suddenly have opened up a gap of three points on their closest rivals approaching the halfway stage.
Edgefold No 1 lost 3-2 at Bolehill No 2 despite Neil Parkinson putting them ahead early doors as Mick Bunting and Kevin Munnelly won each of their singles and doubles legs.
And Belper Strutt Club moved to the fringe of the play off places with a 4-1 win at fourth placed Crich Comrades. Cliff Gould (20 break) put the hosts in front but the rest of the match went Strutt's way with Wayne Shooter top scoring in frame three.
