PAUL ROE was pivotal in Matlock Golf Club topping Group B |
Golf Club wrapped up the winners spot in the group courtesy of a 5-2 home win over Bolehill No 2 with Paul Roe and Chris Parker notching the highest scotch doubles break yet of 38 combined with a run of 26 to rubber stamp a fine performance. Ian Peacock had earlier been on target for the visitors.
Meanwhile, Matlock Club hosted Bolehill No 1 in a thriller, needing a 5-2 win to qualify, the Dale Road cuemen took the first three frames courtesy of Graeme Wood, Mick Mackfall and Dave Benson to leave the dream very much alive.
Ian Birks with a 49-39 verdict pulled one back and then a crucial black ball win in the opening scotch doubles leg from Colin Marchington and Ricki Slack made it 3-2.
Keith Manlove paired up with Wood soon afterwards for a convincing success to leave everything on the final frame but a run of 22 from Slack and Birks steadied the ship for the visitors and they eventually held on to the runners up spot.
In Group A, Edgefold No 2 defeated Edgefold No 1 5-2 with Sean Dobney and Rob Dicken winning all frames they contested whilst Alfreton Palmer Morewood came from 2-0 behind to defeat Crich Comrades 4-3 with Des Smith and Guy Taylor taking the deciding doubles leg.
