EDGEFOLD No3 SHOCK CLAY CROSS TO REACH SEMI FINAL

REECE JOHNSTONE
THERE were some cracking games in the Captains Cup Team Aggregate competition quarter finals and its hats off to the youngsters of Edgefold No3 who recorded their first victory of the season with a thrilling 307-298 defeat of Clay Cross Brotherhood.
Ian McKay struck first for the visitors however as he took the opener 76-50 courtesy of a 28 break and Duncan Waring's 60-59 success in the next kept them with their tails in front.
Sam Kniveton's 66-61 victory in the next narrowed the margin before another one point win for Brotherhood's Tony Blant left a 23 point margin going into the concluding doubles leg.
The game was turned on its head though by a superb 33 break from young Reece Johnstone (partnering Kniveton) as the jubilant home team eventually took the spoils by just nine points.

There was also a cliffhanger at Tansley Potters who took on league leaders Edgefold No1.
Rob Muxlow put the visitors in front with a 76-57 win before Joe Neville and Steve Hawkins hit back with narrow wins for the hosts. Another tight game saw Duncan Harwood (20 break) give his team a three point advantage going into the doubles leg but Neville and Hawkins held firm to record a 68-37 victory and a 306-278 scoreline overall.
Tansley remain the only team to have defeated their rivals this season, having previously done so in the six red cup group stage and the pair meet again in the coming week's league fixture.

Bolehill Institute were in rampant form as they recorded a 408-236 win over Crich Comrades. Ricki Slack amassed 105 points with a run of 29 and Ian Doe ran up 83 points with a break of 23 after Colin Marchington had took most of the colours to pull clear in the opener. Ade Smith was on target for the visitors.

Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 saw off Edgefold No2 in the other game 314-188.
Andrew Beardsley (36 break) was just one of quite a few starring roles as Alex Fisher and Carloz Zaragoza were also in heavy scoring form. Martin Barwick was successful for the hosts but the game was pretty much already decided before the doubles contest.

Jack Lowe had runs of 31, 27 and 24 as he moved into the semi finals of the OMYA Cup individual scratch competition.

Mayfield Institute defeated Whitworth Institute 13-9  to remain top of the Elliott Carpets Billiards League with Mark Jennings and Keith Gregory each earning narrows wins.
The pair were also victorious in the Kenworthy Cup scotch doubles semi finals along with Whitworth pair Jim McCann and Robert Lowe who notched runs of 31 and 30 to progress.
