BOLEHILL No 1 INFLICT FIRST DEFEAT ON MAREHAY/PJ'z

IAN BIRKS provided the knockout blow for Bolehill Institute No 1 after Colin Marchington's win over Marehay danger man Ben Monk had put the home side 2-0 ahead.
A TRUNCATED programme of league matches this week due to illness and unavailability issues but there was still some excellent snooker played in the games that did take place.
Week four brought together last season's A Division winners and runners-up as Marehay Miners Welfare travelled to Bolehill Institute No 1 having enjoyed a barnstorming start to the campaign, dropping only one point in their opening three matches.

The hosts have been stuttering a little early doors so far but were off to a flying start as Ricki Slack and Colin Marchington gave them a 2-0 lead in defeating youngster Ryan Bowen and danger man Ben Monk respectively.

Andrew Gratton, with an early 28 break aiding his cause, reduced the arrears for the visitors in frame three but after a tense battle Ian Birks provided the knockout blow to make it 3-1 with a scorching long pot on the pink to overcome Lee Whatton.

Andrew and Ben did however secure the final doubles frame, Ben finding his feet late in the day with a 36 break which at least reduced the deficit to the minimum margin.

Elsewhere Bolehill Institute No 2 were also off to a flyer as Ian Peacock and Martin Forster put them 2-0 ahead at Belper Strutt Club No 1.

However, this only inspired a great fightback as Paul Jarrett, Steve Bullock and then Paul and partner Mark Newby in the concluding doubles saw them turn things around for a 3-2 victory.

Matlock's Edgefold Club continued their impressive form with a 4-1 win over Belper's Jaxx Q Club.
Rob Muxlow  with breaks of 33 and 22 won both frames he was involved in while Richard Ferguson continued his comeback by topscoring.
Steve Robinson earned the sole point for the visitors.

And in the OMYA Cup individual scratch competition qualifying finals, there were two half century break makers as Jimmy Gratton with 53 and Ricki Slack with 50 made it through to the winners stage in straight frames.
