SIX RED KINGS STRUTT BRING UP THE HAT-TRICK OF WINS

BELPER STRUTT CLUB Bob McCartin Six Red Cup winners 2021/22
L-R: Wayne Shooter, Paul Jarrett, Justin Weller and Steve Bullock.
Also played in previous rounds: Mark Newby, Shane Miles.

BELPER STRUTT CLUB are doing their former team mate the late Bob McCartin proud as they secured the cup named in his honour for the third time in five seasons, in which period they have also landed a runners up prize in the event.
The six red cup final saw Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 1 lining up as their opponents at Crich Comrades Club and it was to prove a hotly contested battle before the Belper cuemen emerged victorious as has been the case with some degree of regularity in recent years.
The opening frame swung back and forth before Wayne Shooter took it on the deciding black but Tom Broughton quickly equalised with a tidy second frame success.
Steve Bullock with an early teen break took control at the start of frame three and ran out a 33-6 winner but again it was level after John Smith raced well ahead and stayed there for 2-2.

Andrew Haggarty (standing in for Tom Broughton) and Phil Longden
with the Presidents Cup (highest scotch doubles break award)
The first of the pairs proved pivotal as Tom Broughton and Phil Longden combined admirably to take the highest scotch doubles break of 28 (in the process lifting the Presidents Cup) and move 32-0 to the good but then an incredible backs-to-the-wall effort from opponents Justin Weller and Shooter put the frame in the balance with just pink and black to go.
Leading by four, an untimely in-off left the Belper pairing two points ahead and with the cue ball back in the "D", a simple pot on the penultimate ball ensued as the comeback was completed.
And that effort was rubber-stamped when Paul Jarrett and Bullock took the match-winning leg courtesy of a 37-17 verdict.
Andrew Haggarty and Longden reduced the deficit to the minimum margin in the last doubles but it was academic as Belper once again proved undisputed kings of the short format game.

In the OMYA Cup scratch individual event, the semi finalists became known with Ricki Slack (Bolehill), Ben Monk (Alfreton), Sean Dobney (Edgefold) and Justin Weller (Strutt) reaching the last four stage.
Bob McCartin Six Red Cup final: Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 1 3, Belper Strutt Club 4 (at Crich Comrades): 29-36; 45-13; 6-33; 49-15; 32-40; 17-37; 35-21.
Breaks: T Broughton / P Longden 28 (highest scotch doubles break to win the Presidents Cup); B Monk 28,26,24,21; G Jones 28; D Smith 20.

BOLEHILL No 2 REPEAT THE SAME DOSE TO WHITWORTH

KEITH ROBERTSON took both singles and doubles legs
BOTH Bolehill teams scored impressive 4-1 wins at home this week with the No 2 team repeating their recent defeat of Whitworth Institute in the Cup now back in T & M Motors League action whilst the No 1 outfit got the better of Edgefold Club by the same scoreline.
Whiworth's David Hobson was denied his opening league register on the final black as he lost out 40-34 to the No 2 team's Darren Bunting, who was scoring his sixth win from eight games.
And it looked like another black ball clincher was going Bolehill's way until after dispatching said ball, the cue ball followed it through into the same pocket  to the dismay of striker Joe Neville and elation of his opponent Peter Lee.
However, that was as good as it got for the Darley Dale cuemen as Mick Bunting and Keith Robertson each scored singles successes before teaming up in the pairs to add another point.

The No 1 team were not to be out-done as Colin Marchington reeled off his eighth straight win and Andrew Brough also scored heavily whilst only James Travis could find a reply for Edgefold.

Elsewhere, Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 2 kept up the pressure with a fine 4-1 win of their own at Matlock Golf Club where returning Chesterfield League hotshot Steve Donner had runs of 51 and 49 and Kyle Ryde impressed whilst Chris Parker showed he still knows where the pockets are for the hosts after a long absence from competitive play.

Alfreton No 1 saw off Crich Comrades No 2 4-1 also with Tom Broughton top scoring and Ady Lowe (32 break) on target for the Tramwaymen.

And it was a clean sweep of 4-1 scorelines all round as Belper Strutt Club bounced back to form after last week's loss as they saw off Crich No 1 with Paul Jarrett and Justin Weller in confident mood before Ade Smith and Nick Berry saw off the whitewash in the concluding doubles leg.
