CLAY CROSS MOVE FOURTH AS ALFRETON No2 PROGRESS

GRAHAM JONES
WITH the six red cup final re-scheduled for the end of the season, there were just a couple of team matches taking place, one in the T & M Motors Snooker League which saw Clay Cross Brotherhood move into the fourth play-off spot and the other seeing Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 progress in the  Captains Cup aggregate event.
Duncan Waring (36 break) gave the hosts a flyer against visitors Tansley Potters as the Brotherhood looked to give a repeat performance of their whitewash of the same opposition the previous week.
But Joe Neville was having none of it as he quickly equalised after a tight battle to take the next frame 42-33.
Graham Jones took the next 61-49 to re-affirm the advantage however and a black ball win for Ian McKay in a high scoring extravaganza (81-77) made sure of the victory.
Jones and McKay then teamed up to rubber stamp the win with a convincing performance in the doubles leg.

The delayed first round encounter at Belper Royal British Legion saw Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 ultimately gain a comfortable success 378-278.
Ben Monk (25 break) took the opener 96-35 and Steve Donner (36 break) added the next 83-73.
Justin Weller hauled the Legionnaires back into the contest with an 80-46 salvo in frame three but wins for Jack Lowe and the Donner / Andrew Beardsley doubles combo ensured the visitors progress to the next round.

Tightest match in the singles quarter finals so far came between team-mates Josh Dakin and Scott Brooks of Edgefold No2 with the former edging it 3-2 on the final black of the main handicap event.

In the Elliott Carpets Billiards League, Bolehill Institute defeated Tansley Potters 16-14 to maintain their challenge for the top with Ricki Slack (runs of 31 and 30) running up 252 points in the opener before Joe Neville (38 and 35 breaks) brought Tansley very close come the end with an excellent performance himself.
