NEWCOMERS ENJOY THEIR OPENING SUCCESS IN WEEK 2

TOM BROUGHTON put ALFRETON No 2 on the right track
NEWCOMERS Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 2 bounced back from their opening defeat in The Joinery Joint Snooker League with a hard fought 3-2 home win over Matlock Golf Club.
Tom Broughton (29 break) used his county "B" team experience to good effect with an opening victory over ex county champ Graham Jones 62-42 before Derek Smith scored a convincing triumph in the next.
The visitors battled back though with Ian McKay (27 break) taking a 77-20 verdict and then debutant Tony Blant equalising soon after.
However, with the home team utilising their six-man squad to full effect, Ryan Taylor and John Smith (not the famous octogenarian of the same name) successfully combined in the doubles frame to take the spoils.

Edgefold No 1, who gained maximum points last week, came unstuck 3-2 at Bolehill Institute No 2 for whom Mark Sayer put in a starring role, defeating league titan Andy Russell 90-52 in a career best performance.
Keith Robertson (24 break) head earlier seen the hosts off to a flyer before Neil Parkinson levelled on the black.

Bolehill No 1 scored their second 4-1 win of the season at Edgefold No 2. Rob Dicken put the Matlock outfit ahead early doors but a fine comeback was started by Simon Zoppi and finished by Mark Gwynne-Jones, who took both pink and blank to sneak the concluding doubles frame after emerging victorious from his singles earlier in the evening.

Alfreton No 1 likewise made it two 4-1 wins on the bounce, earning an excellent result at last seasons champions Belper Strutt Club with Jamie Rowland and Simon Mayes winning both of their singles and doubles frames. Steve Bullock registered the point for the home team.
