GOLFERS COME OUT ON TOP IN BATTLE OF THE MAX MEN

THE TWO teams who scored maximum points hauls in their opening T & M Motors Snooker League fixtures locked horns this week as Alfreton Palmer Morewood hosts reigning champions Matlock Golf Club and it was the visitors who took the spoils with a 3-2 victory.
Tom Broughton started the ball rolling impressively for the Amber Valley cuemen, taking the opener  61-37 before a crucial second frame went the way of the Golfers as Ian McKay scored a black ball verdict of 60-59.
Tony Blant soon made it 2-1 and then Graham Jones 3-1 before the two Smiths, John and Des, hit back for the hosts in the concluding doubles leg.

Bolehill Institute No 2 opened their account with a 4-1 defeat of Matlock Club. Keith Manlove was in barnstorming form for the hosts with a 75-16 success but three black ball deciders went the way of the victors with Keith Robertson and Kevin Munnelly both instrumental.

And Belper Strutt Club defeated Crich Comrades No 2 by the same scoreline. Mark Taylor on his league debut scored an impressive success for the Belper men and eventually it was down to Dale Shaw and Ady Lowe to prevent a whitewash by taking the final pairs frame.

In a delayed Bob McCartin Six Red Cup Group B encounter, Crich No 2 earned bragging rights over their No 1 team for the forthcoming period with a 4-3 win, Ady Lowe and John Smith top scoring respectively.

CRICH No 1 OPEN SIX RED CAMPAIGN WITH NARROW WIN

ADE SMITH kept up the pressure for CRICH No 1
SOME tight battles in the second round of Bob McCartin Six Red Cup matches and none fore so than the clash which saw Crich Comrades No 1 travel to and defeat Bolehill Institute No 2 4-3 as each team got their Group B campaign underway.
Nick Berry edged the opener for the visitors and Paul Trevett (22 break) made it 2-0 courtesy of a black ball decider in the next.
Home team captain Mick Bunting pulled one back before Ade Smith increased the Tramwaymen's lead to 3-1.
Bunting then teamed up with son Darren to snatch a black ball victory in the first of the scotch doubles legs but John Smith and Cliff Gould sealed victory for the visitors in the penultimate frame.
Bolehill No 1 edged out Belper Strutt Club 4-3 to move level on points in Group A where Ian Birks and Simon Zoppi's black ball win in frame six secured the match after the hosts had led 2-0 early doors.
Alfreton Palmer Morewood defeated Whitworth Institute 5-2 in the same group with Andrew Haggarty and Des Smith (21 break) in winning form whilst in Group C Matlock Golf Club sneaked past Edgefold Club 4-3 on Edge Road with Les Mooney involved in two breaks of 22 with Ian McKay and Paul Roe respectively in the scotch doubles.
