ADY LOWE ... decisive win for CRICH No 2 |
A tight opener saw Graeme Wood nick a 57-53 verdict after a titanic battle and Paul Holmes then added to the lead wth a 72-54 success to eke out a 22 point advantage for the visitors.
The Tramwaymen reduced the arrears through Dale Shaw, who emerged with a 62-55 triumph and then came the decisive performance from home captain Ady Lowe, whose 54 point victory saw his side 39 ahead going into the doubles leg.
And Ady teamed up with relative Jack Lowe to rubber stamp progress into the next round, courtesy of a 54-47 frame scoreline.
Bolehill No 1 moved into second place in the T & M Motors League with a 4-1 home win over Edgefold, though their last three winning frames all went down to the final black.
Colin Marchington put the hosts ahead before Josh Lee equalised and despite runs of 29,23 and 21 from Sean Dobney, Bolehill picked off the decisive balls at the end of frames to run out winners, Ian Birks' excellent run out from blue to black in the fourth catching the eye in particular.
Top break from the week's singles and doubles action was Keith Robertson's 39 clearance in the Denis Morton Cup competition.
