EDGEFOLD No 1 START THE NEW SEASON IN STYLE

RICHARD FERGUSON started the ball rolling for EDGEFOLD No 1
EDGEFOLD No 1 have soon blown away the cobwebs of the close season with a decisive opening win in the newly sponsored J K Interiors and Joinery Services Snooker League to back up their six red cup success the previous week.
Last season's runners up were playing host to Matlock Club and Richard Ferguson, courtesy of a decisive 22 break, defeated Paul Holmes 71-55 to get the show on the road and prove an able replacement for one of last season's stars Martyn Taylor, who now forms part of the No 2 team squad.

Duncan Harwood (23 break) made it 2-0 with a 73-36 win over Graeme Wood before impressive new talent Andy Russell secured the success in defeating Keith Manlove 66-31.

And there was to be no let-up as Robert Muxlow and finally Neil Parkinson and Russell again in the concluding doubles ensured a maximum points haul.

Reigning league champions Bolehill Institute No 1 have made a much slower start in comparison and they fell to the club's No 2 team for the second week running, this time edged out 3-2 in the deciding doubles frame.

Mick Bunting and Keith Robertson (24 break) were very impressive performers for the victors while Andrew Brough put up a barnstorming display for the vanquished.

Elsewhere, Alfreton Palmer Morewood Club defeated Belper Strutt No 2 by the odd frame in five as Ken Rowland and William Salt took the deciding doubles frame on the final black after Justin Weller had earlier made it 2-2 with his own black ball win in frame four.

League week 1 results: Edgefold Matlock No 1 5, Matlock Club 0; Bolehill Institute No 1 2, Bolehill Institute No 2 3; Alfreton Palmer Morewood 3, Belper Strutt No 2 2. Postponed: Matlock Cons v Edgefold Matlock No 2 and Belper Strutt No 1 v Jaxx Q Club Belper.
Breaks: K Robertson 24; D Harwood 23; R Ferguson 22.

BOLEHILL No 2 TEAM USURP No 1 TEAM IN SIX RED CLASH

KEITH ROBERTSON ... summer coaching paid dividends
THE OPENING group matches in this seasons Bob McCartin Six Red Cup saw wins for Bolehill Institute No 2, both Edgefold teams and newcomers Alfreton Palmer Morewood.
Group A had a full complement of games and it was here that the two Bolehill teams locked horns with the No 2 outfit defeating last seasons league champions 5-2.

Both teams looked somewhat rusty but Ian Peacock (on blue) and then Mick Bunting (taking pink and black) made it 2-0 before Keith Robertson fresh from a bout of summer coaching added the third with the most impressive performance of the night.

The first scotch doubles frame was played next and also went the same way with success for Robertson and Bunting.

Ian Birks pulled one back and then he and Ricki Slack made it 2-4 before the margin looked set to be eroded further with Birks requiring just the pink in the final scotch doubles frame.

However, with some disturbance behind the pocket, the ball rattled the jaws and eventually Robertson produced a stunning long black to leave daylight between the teams, who are set for a re-match in the opening league fixture.

Elsewhere, Andy Russell notched a 34 break in Edgefold No 1's 5-2 win over Jaxx Q Club for whom Shak Mirza was the star performer with one singles and one scotch doubles success to his name.

In Group B Alfreton Palmer Morewood defeated Matlock Club 5-2 with Simon Mayes recording breaks of 34 and 21 and Jamie and Ken Rowland leading the scotch doubles break ladder with 26.
Group C saw Edgefold No 2 sneak past Belper Strutt No 1 4-3.
