TOM AND MATT BRING HOME THE BACON FOR EDGEFOLD

THE first official week of the league season saw the tightest match played out at Matlock's Edgefold Club who came from 2-1 behind to defeat Bolehill Institute No 2 in a thriller.
Tom Chambers and Matthew Travis were the stars for the home team, notching 23 and 20 breaks respectively in the concluding doubles match after Keith Robertson had recorded a break of 29 for the visitors when levelling matters.

Champions PJ'z of Ripley are currently playing from Marehay Miners Welfare until their own club re-opens, and they laid down an ominous marker for the season with a 5-0 triumph over Jaxx Q Club of Belper.
Ben Monk, as ever, was in blistering form during the evening with breaks of 35 and 32 although he was pushed all the way in the opening frame by Tim Maslin, eventually winning it on the black.

The other two matches that went ahead featured teams who had met only last week in the Six Red Cup and on each occasion the form was confirmed.

Belper Strutt Club No 2 were pushed closer by the No 1 team this week but still emerged 3-2 winners, with Chris Stubbs and Stewart Jackson knocking in breaks of 24 and 25 respectively to seal the deal in the third and fourth frames.

And at Bolehill Institute, the No 1 team overcame Matlock Club 4-1 with Ian Birks the widest margin victor for the hosts and Graeme Wood producing an excellent individual performance for the visitors.

The travelling team gained some compensation by winning the remaining frame carried over from the previous week's six red cup affair to reduce the final arrears of that encounter to the minimum margin (this had been due to illness in the camp to one of their players last week).

STRUTT CLUB No 2 OFF TO A FLYER IN SIX RED CUP

THE NEW season of the DDD Snooker League got underway last week with the Bob McCartin 6-Red Cup's main feature being the local derby between the two teams from Belper Strutt Club.
And it was the No 2 team who usurped the No 1 team with a fine 5-2 victory, the highlight of which was a 22 break in the scotch doubles section from newcomer Chris Stubbs and his partner Adam Winson.

Earlier in the night Andrew Hopkinson, grandson of long standing league custodian Alan, also made a successful debut to set his team on the right track and there was no looking back thereafter.

At Bolehill Institute, the No 1 team hosted Matlock Club and with the visitors hit by a late illness to one of their players, only six frames were played with one held over.

The spoils went to the home team 4-2 with Andrew Brough in impressive form in the singles and Keith Manlove winning both scotch doubles frames he contested.

Due to a football match at Causeway Lane, Gladiators Social Club brought forward their league match at Matlock Golf Club and were narrowly defeated 3-2 with Chris Parker top scoring for the hosts.
