THE BATTLE for the play-off places in this season's T & M Motors Snooker League is hotting up with any number of teams involved and Edgefold No2 moved into second position for the first time following a 3-2 victory at Clay Cross Brotherhood.
Young Sam Kniveton, after a couple of near misses, gained his first singles success for the Matlock side and did it with aplomb with a fine all round display to take an 88-53 success against dual former Derbyshire champion Graham Jones.
Duncan Waring levelled matters with a 71-54 verdict but another fledgling performer Tommy Smith continued his excellent first season with a 56-55 win for the visitors.
Jamie Wright was in fine form to take the fourth frame 60-34 before Waring (27 break) and Paul Roe (28 break) amassed 90pts in the concluding doubles leg but it was all too late to affect the overall result.
Tansley Potters took a 3-2 triumph from Alfreton Palmer Morewood No3.
The two Nevilles, Joe and son Radford soon had them 2-0 to the good before Ady Lowe edged a tight third frame and then Carlos Zaragoza, playing as the reserve, equalised soon afterwards.
But Joe Neville teamed up with Steve Hawkins to steady the ship in the final doubles leg and fire a 61-48 decisive salvo.
IAN BIRKS ... 34 clearance |
The hosts defeated Belper RBL 4-1 with Colin Marchington, Ricki Slack and Simon Zoppi reeling off the first three frames. Justin Weller (24 break) pulled one back but a superb 34 clearance from Ian Birks to take the doubles leg on the final black rubber-stamped the evening for the victors.
In the competitions, Nick Berry edged three tight frames to qualify for the B Individual Handicap semi final while Rob Muxlow moved into the same stages of the regular Individual Handicap with a 3-0 success.
