LEADERS TASTE SUCCESS IN EDGEFOLD SHOWDOWN

ROB MUXLOW ... deciding doubles victor
WEEK FOURTEEN of the T & M Motors Snooker League brought together Edgefold No1 and Edgefold No2 in a battle for bragging rights which eventually went to the league leaders but only after a titanic battle which saw them take the deciding doubles leg for a 3-2 victory.
Richard Ferguson took the opener 62-26 before Trevor Wright quickly hit back with a 71-54 riposte to level things up early doors.
A 63-37 verdict for Duncan Harwood in the next put the prospective champs in pole position but Scott Brooks once again squared things up with a 62-32 scoreline.
However, Ferguson and Rob Muxlow kept cool heads to see their side home with a 59-37 verdict.

Second placed Bolehill Institute also took a 3-2 win from Alfreton Palmer Morewood No1 with Colin Marchington taking the first on the pink before a fine potting display from young Cole Smith levelled things up.
Simon Zoppi eventually took an eventful third frame and Ricki Slack made the match safe before the in-form Cole teamed up with Phil Longden to reduce the arrears to the minimum margin.

Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 went under 3-2 at Belper Royal British Legion despite Ben Monk's thrilling 67-66 win in the opener, aided by a break of 34.
Justin Weller and Steve Bullock (on the black) nudged the home side in front and Mark Newby put them beyond reproach before Jack Lowe and Andrew Beardsley took the concluding doubles leg.

Crich Comrades scored one of their best wins of the season with a 4-1 defeat of Tansley Potters.
Jack Long edged a high scoring frame to start proceedings with a 79-77 success and although Steve Hawkins swiftly equalised, wins for Martyn Dranfield and Ade Smith ensured the beer was flowing for the Tramwaymen at the end of the evening.
Long and Smith put the icing on the cake in the doubles leg.

Clay Cross Brotherhood were also in high scoring form as they defeated Edgefold No3 4-1 with Paul Roe notching a century points haul in his first appearance of the season and Duncan Waring not far behind scoring 95 with the help of a 37 break.
Tony Blant added the next before Reece Johnstone got the visitors on the board though the home side ended a successful night by adding the pairs frame too.

In the competitions, Reece Johnstone became the first player to reach one of the end of season finals as he edged out John Smith 3-2 in the Intermediate Handicap semi, scoring an excellent 36 break in the decider.

Just one match in the Elliott Carpets Billiards League which resulted in a 13-13 draw between Mayfield and Bolehill Institutes, leaving the Ashbourne cuemen in pole position for the league title, five points behind with a game in hand.

COMRADES TAKE BLACK BALL THRILLER AT EDGEFOLD No2

ADE SMITH of Crich Comrades
CRICH COMRADES emerged victorious from the tightest battle of the week's T & M Motors Snooker League programme as they triumphed on the final black in their fixture at Edgefold No2.

Bolehill Institute also battled through to take a tough encounter at Alfreton No2 by the minimum margin.
Steve Donner (25 break) took the opener on the pink and Ben Monk (50 break) soon made it two but a re-spotted black ball success for Simon Zoppi kept the visitors in the hunt and Ian Birks took his singles and doubles legs (partnering Ricki Slack) to complete the turnaround.

There was better fortune the following day for Alfreton, who caught up with their outstanding fixture at Clay Cross Brotherhood and secured a 4-1 victory.
Ben Monk (32 break) was again flowing nicely in the balls and with Carlos Zaragoza taking the second frame on the black, victory was then assured by Jack Lowe's 72-23 scoreline in frame three.
Tony Blant was on target for the hosts with a black ball win before Lowe and Aflie Richardson put the icing on the cake in the doubles.

EDGEFOLD No3 SHOCK CLAY CROSS TO REACH SEMI FINAL

REECE JOHNSTONE
THERE were some cracking games in the Captains Cup Team Aggregate competition quarter finals and its hats off to the youngsters of Edgefold No3 who recorded their first victory of the season with a thrilling 307-298 defeat of Clay Cross Brotherhood.
Ian McKay struck first for the visitors however as he took the opener 76-50 courtesy of a 28 break and Duncan Waring's 60-59 success in the next kept them with their tails in front.
Sam Kniveton's 66-61 victory in the next narrowed the margin before another one point win for Brotherhood's Tony Blant left a 23 point margin going into the concluding doubles leg.
The game was turned on its head though by a superb 33 break from young Reece Johnstone (partnering Kniveton) as the jubilant home team eventually took the spoils by just nine points.

There was also a cliffhanger at Tansley Potters who took on league leaders Edgefold No1.
Rob Muxlow put the visitors in front with a 76-57 win before Joe Neville and Steve Hawkins hit back with narrow wins for the hosts. Another tight game saw Duncan Harwood (20 break) give his team a three point advantage going into the doubles leg but Neville and Hawkins held firm to record a 68-37 victory and a 306-278 scoreline overall.
Tansley remain the only team to have defeated their rivals this season, having previously done so in the six red cup group stage and the pair meet again in the coming week's league fixture.

Mayfield Institute defeated Whitworth Institute 13-9  to remain top of the Elliott Carpets Billiards League with Mark Jennings and Keith Gregory each earning narrows wins.

CLAY CROSS MOVE FOURTH AS ALFRETON No2 PROGRESS

GRAHAM JONES
WITH the six red cup final re-scheduled for the end of the season, there were just a couple of team matches taking place, one in the T & M Motors Snooker League which saw Clay Cross Brotherhood move into the fourth play-off spot and the other seeing Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 progress in the  Captains Cup aggregate event.
Duncan Waring (36 break) gave the hosts a flyer against visitors Tansley Potters as the Brotherhood looked to give a repeat performance of their whitewash of the same opposition the previous week.
But Joe Neville was having none of it as he quickly equalised after a tight battle to take the next frame 42-33.
Graham Jones took the next 61-49 to re-affirm the advantage however and a black ball win for Ian McKay in a high scoring extravaganza (81-77) made sure of the victory.
Jones and McKay then teamed up to rubber stamp the win with a convincing performance in the doubles leg.

The delayed first round encounter at Belper Royal British Legion saw Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 ultimately gain a comfortable success 378-278.
Ben Monk (25 break) took the opener 96-35 and Steve Donner (36 break) added the next 83-73.
Justin Weller hauled the Legionnaires back into the contest with an 80-46 salvo in frame three but wins for Jack Lowe and the Donner / Andrew Beardsley doubles combo ensured the visitors progress to the next round.

Tightest match in the singles quarter finals so far came between team-mates Josh Dakin and Scott Brooks of Edgefold No2 with the former edging it 3-2 on the final black of the main handicap event.

In the Elliott Carpets Billiards League, Bolehill Institute defeated Tansley Potters 16-14 to maintain their challenge for the top with Ricki Slack (runs of 31 and 30) running up 252 points in the opener before Joe Neville (38 and 35 breaks) brought Tansley very close come the end with an excellent performance himself.

Mark Newby took a tight encounter 44-34 to open proceedings and Steve Bullock continued his good run of form to add the second 52-25.
Phil Longden edged the third 42-33 and after Andrew Haggarty had triumphed in the next with a 78-55 scoreline it was all resting on the final doubles leg.
And up stepped Wayne Shooter to partner Newby to a nail-biting 51-49 success.

Edgefold No1 maintained their unbeaten run with a 4-1 victory at Crich Comrades.
Rob Muxlow and Duncan Harwood put the visitors two to the good before a black ball victory for Steve Burton made sure of success.
Tommy Smith added the next before the Tramwaymen got on the board in the concluding doubles thanks to a 63-55 verdict for Jack Long and Ade Smith.

Bolehill Institute remained six points adrift after they defeated Edgefold No3 4-1 though both Ians, Doe and Birks came through tough battles with the former fluking a re-spotted black and latter eventually winning on the pink after lots of drama with the black hanging over a corner pocket.
Ricki Slack notched a 40 break before Reece Johnstone and Jacob Bradbury produced a stellar performance in the concluding pairs to get a deserved point for their team.

Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 raced into a 3-0 lead at Edgefold No2 thanks to Alex Fisher, Carlos Zaragoza and Andrew Beardsley but Scott Brooks pulled one back and then took the doubles with Josh Dakin to reduce the arrears to the minimum margin.

Clay Cross Brotherhood took all five points from Tansley Potters which is no mean feat with Duncan Waring involved in the closing game which he took 59-58.
Graham Jones and Ian McKay also succeeded on the black in the doubles leg while Tony Blant top scored.

In the competitions, Ben Monk produced a string of breaks (37,31,30,29 & 27) to progress in a pair of entertaining singles matches with Sean Dobney who also ran up breaks of 30,28 & 20 in defeat. Jack Lowe also had runs of 31, 28 and 24 twice as he reached the OMYA Cup quarter final stage.
