FORMIDABLE FORCE ARE THE SIX RED CHAMPS AGAIN

MAREHAY MW L-R: Jamie Woodward, Ben Monk, Jamie Rowland and Andrew Gratton.
MAREHAY MINERS WELFARE'S formidable line-up continued their dominance of the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup by defeating Belper's Jaxx Q Club 4-2 in the final, following up last season's success when playing from PJ'z Club of Ripley.
It wasn't all plain sailing however, as Mark Jones upset the apple-cart early doors with a 36-21 win over danger man Ben Monk before Andrew Gratton, aided by a break of 25, quickly levelled matters by defeating Steve Robinson 68-21.

Two tight battles ensued thereafter, with Jamie Woodward edging out county pool player Ian Burgoyne, who was making his debut for Jaxx, 34-22 before Paul Ogden equalised at 2-2 with a 30-21 verdict over Jamie Rowland.

So with it all now resting on the remaining scotch doubles legs, this is where Ben Monk came to the fore to settle the issue, partnering firstly Andrew Gratton and then Jamie Rowland to victories by 44-29 and 51-23 respectively to conclude an excellent night's work from the Amber Valley cueists.

In the only other scheduled match this week, Gladiators Social Club's Dwayne Martin and Troy Brett reached the Denis Morton Pairs Handicap final thanks to a 3-0 success over Bolehill's Andrew Brough and Simon Zoppi.

Bob McCartin Six Red Cup final: Marehay MW / PJ'z 4, Jaxx Q Club Belper 2.
Denis Morton Pairs Handicap Trophy semi final: D Martin / T Brett 3, A Brough / S Zoppi 0 (at Matlock Club).
Breaks: A Gratton 25; B Monk / J Rowland 24; B Monk / A Gratton 23; T Brett 22,21.
