KYLE MOVES UP THE GEARS IN ALFRETON TITLE PUSH

KYLE RYDE ...impressive display for ALFRETON No 2
ALFRETON PALMER MOREWOOD No 2 took a big step towards fulfilling their pre-season favourites mantle in the latest round of T & M Motors Snooker League fixtures as they ran out 4-1 victors at erstwhile leaders Bolehill Institute No 1 to go level on points with a game in hand.
Steve Donner celebrated the return of his repaired cue to show some dazzling potting skills in taking the opening frame with runs of 27 and 22 thus ending Colin Marchington's unbeaten run of eight.
Next up recent signing motorcycle ace Kyle Ryde showed what a promising prospect he is on the baize also as he delivered breaks of 26 and 20 to put the Amber Valley cuemen well into the ascendancy.
Ben Monk was next up to the plate and after a good battle, he stepped in with the last three balls to take a 72-58 success and ensure victory for his team before Simon Mays continued his excellent recent form with a break of 29 en route to a comfortable win.
Bolehill finally got on the scoreboard with Ian Birks sinking the deciding black in the doubles leg to avoid the whitewash.

Belper Strutt Club moved to within one point of those two teams with a 4-1 verdict over Alfreton No 1.
Wayne Shooter and Steve Bullock each took black ball successes in the early frames which proved the platform for the win while John Smith was on target for the visitors.

There was a cracking frame in the game between Crich Comrades No 2 and Whitworth Institute as despite a superb break of 31 by Geoff Brailsford, Ady Lowe came back strongly to take the leg 68-57 and ensure victory before Mark Gwynne-Jones took each of his singles and doubles legs to reduce the deficit to the minimum margin of 3-2.

Radford Neville made his first appearance in the league for many years and showed he had not lost his old sparkle with a 64-22 win for Bolehill No 2, but that was a good as it got for the visitors as last year's champions showed their class to dominate proceedings thereafter, with some hefty points scoring to boot.
Les Mooney brought up the century, whilst Graham Jones amassed 94 points and then 83 in the pairs with Chris Parker.

In the other game, Edgefold were back in the winners enclosure with a 3-2 defeat of Crich No 1. Duncan Harwood and Dan Stone secured the deciding doubles leg after Ade Smith had top scored for the Tramwaymen.

Crich's Paul Trevett was in excellent touch in the "B" Individual Handicap competition as he notched a 30 break en route to reaching the semi final stages.

GOLFERS SEE OFF WELLER RALLY TO MOVE INTO SEMIS

CHRIS PARKER
MATLOCK GOLF CLUB saw off Belper Strutt Club 301-280 to reach the semi finals of the Captains Cup (Team Aggregate) in what turned out to be the closest of the  quarter final ties.
Les Mooney with an excellent break of 40 gave the golfers a decent cushion in the opener and then Ian McKay added to it with a narrow victory in the next to leave the home side 56 ahead.
Another cliffhanger saw Chris Parker edge home in the next but an emphatic fourth frame success by Justin Weller put the match back in the balance as he secured a 76-28 verdict.
But Graham Jones and McKay made sure their side retained the advantage with a hard fought doubles success.

Elsewhere, Alfreton Palmer Morewood's teams both progressed with the No 1 team defeating Crich Comrades No 2 334-270 with Des and John Smith's century points haul in the final doubles leg proving the decisive blow after each had earlier taken their singles legs. Ady Lowe top scored for the hosts.

Alfreton No 2 secured a 325-229 win at Bolehill No 1 with Ben Monk (31 break) and Simon Mays (104 points haul) in barnstorming mood. Ricki Slack and Ian Birks took narrow victories for the vanquished but the Amber Valley cuemen progressed with a bit to spare.

Bolehill No 1 enjoyed better fortune as they got past Crich No 1 316-263 with Joe Neville's 33 break in the opening exchange setting the tone before he teamed up with Keith Robertson in the pairs to bookend the night. Nick Berry top scored for the visitors.

SIX RED KINGS STRUTT BRING UP THE HAT-TRICK OF WINS

BELPER STRUTT CLUB Bob McCartin Six Red Cup winners 2021/22
L-R: Wayne Shooter, Paul Jarrett, Justin Weller and Steve Bullock.
Also played in previous rounds: Mark Newby, Shane Miles.

BELPER STRUTT CLUB are doing their former team mate the late Bob McCartin proud as they secured the cup named in his honour for the third time in five seasons, in which period they have also landed a runners up prize in the event.
The six red cup final saw Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 1 lining up as their opponents at Crich Comrades Club and it was to prove a hotly contested battle before the Belper cuemen emerged victorious as has been the case with some degree of regularity in recent years.
The opening frame swung back and forth before Wayne Shooter took it on the deciding black but Tom Broughton quickly equalised with a tidy second frame success.
Steve Bullock with an early teen break took control at the start of frame three and ran out a 33-6 winner but again it was level after John Smith raced well ahead and stayed there for 2-2.

Andrew Haggarty (standing in for Tom Broughton) and Phil Longden
with the Presidents Cup (highest scotch doubles break award)
The first of the pairs proved pivotal as Tom Broughton and Phil Longden combined admirably to take the highest scotch doubles break of 28 (in the process lifting the Presidents Cup) and move 32-0 to the good but then an incredible backs-to-the-wall effort from opponents Justin Weller and Shooter put the frame in the balance with just pink and black to go.
Leading by four, an untimely in-off left the Belper pairing two points ahead and with the cue ball back in the "D", a simple pot on the penultimate ball ensued as the comeback was completed.
And that effort was rubber-stamped when Paul Jarrett and Bullock took the match-winning leg courtesy of a 37-17 verdict.
Andrew Haggarty and Longden reduced the deficit to the minimum margin in the last doubles but it was academic as Belper once again proved undisputed kings of the short format game.

In the OMYA Cup scratch individual event, the semi finalists became known with Ricki Slack (Bolehill), Ben Monk (Alfreton), Sean Dobney (Edgefold) and Justin Weller (Strutt) reaching the last four stage.
Bob McCartin Six Red Cup final: Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 1 3, Belper Strutt Club 4 (at Crich Comrades): 29-36; 45-13; 6-33; 49-15; 32-40; 17-37; 35-21.
Breaks: T Broughton / P Longden 28 (highest scotch doubles break to win the Presidents Cup); B Monk 28,26,24,21; G Jones 28; D Smith 20.

BOLEHILL No 2 REPEAT THE SAME DOSE TO WHITWORTH

KEITH ROBERTSON took both singles and doubles legs
BOTH Bolehill teams scored impressive 4-1 wins at home this week with the No 2 team repeating their recent defeat of Whitworth Institute in the Cup now back in T & M Motors League action whilst the No 1 outfit got the better of Edgefold Club by the same scoreline.
Whiworth's David Hobson was denied his opening league register on the final black as he lost out 40-34 to the No 2 team's Darren Bunting, who was scoring his sixth win from eight games.
And it looked like another black ball clincher was going Bolehill's way until after dispatching said ball, the cue ball followed it through into the same pocket  to the dismay of striker Joe Neville and elation of his opponent Peter Lee.
However, that was as good as it got for the Darley Dale cuemen as Mick Bunting and Keith Robertson each scored singles successes before teaming up in the pairs to add another point.

The No 1 team were not to be out-done as Colin Marchington reeled off his eighth straight win and Andrew Brough also scored heavily whilst only James Travis could find a reply for Edgefold.

Elsewhere, Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 2 kept up the pressure with a fine 4-1 win of their own at Matlock Golf Club where returning Chesterfield League hotshot Steve Donner had runs of 51 and 49 and Kyle Ryde impressed whilst Chris Parker showed he still knows where the pockets are for the hosts after a long absence from competitive play.

Alfreton No 1 saw off Crich Comrades No 2 4-1 also with Tom Broughton top scoring and Ady Lowe (32 break) on target for the Tramwaymen.

And it was a clean sweep of 4-1 scorelines all round as Belper Strutt Club bounced back to form after last week's loss as they saw off Crich No 1 with Paul Jarrett and Justin Weller in confident mood before Ade Smith and Nick Berry saw off the whitewash in the concluding doubles leg.

NAP HAND FOR ALFRETON IN EMPHATIC WIN OVER RIVALS

KEVIN ROWLAND made it 2-0 for ALFRETON PM 2
ALFRETON PALMER MOREWOOD No 2 boosted their title hopes with a 5-0 home win over Belper Strutt Club, thus leapfrogging them in the process into second place in the T & M Motors Snooker League.
Ben Monk (39 break) was in his usual high scoring mode in giving the Amber Valley men an early advantage and stalwart Kevin Rowland soon made it 2-0 with a  71-59 success.
Andrew Beardsley then added his eighth successive league win to make it 3-0 and promising addition from the Chesterfield League Kyle Ryde (34 break) added another soon afterwards.
And Monk and Beardsley brought up the nap hand with a sterling 88-21 verdict in the concluding doubles leg to complete a great night for the team.

Alfreton No 1 also tasted victory with a 3-2 win at Whitworth Institute with Des Smith top scoring for the victors whilst Geoff Brailsford was on target in both singles and doubles legs for the hosts.

In the Bolehill derby, the No 1 team edged out the No 2 outfit 3-2 in a reversal of the score from earlier in the season.
Simon Zoppi notched in both singles and doubles legs to steer his side onto the winners roster whilst Darren Bunting top scored for the vanquished.

Crich No 2 were back to winning ways with a 3-2 triumph at Edgefold Club despite the efforts of Matlock captain Sean Dobney who knocked in runs of 39 and 25.
Graeme Wood amassed 84pts in his frame whilst Ady Lowe secured both singles and doubles wins.

And Crich No 1 were also victorious with a 4-1 home win over Matlock Golf Club.
Paul Trevett, Cliff Gould and Ade Smith were all in barnstorming form to leave the reigning champs reeling although Graham Jones ensured some resistance with a 67-48 win in frame three.

ALFRETON No1 TAKE DECIDING LEG TO BOOK FINAL PLACE

JOHN SMITH ... decisive win with Des in scotch doubles
THE delayed Bob McCartin Six Red Cup semi final took place this week in place of the scheduled league fixture between Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 1 and Crich Comrades No 1 and it turned into a real thriller that went right down to the final scotch doubles leg.
Tom Broughton got the hosts off to the best possible start with a 50-23 victory in the opening joust before Dan Gould equalised with a convincing 51-9 success for the Tramwaymen.
Home captain Andrew Haggarty made it 2-1 with a 62-32 verdict and then John Smith stretched Alfreton's lead to 3-1 in the next after a hard fought 34-23 success.
But Crich battled back in the scotch doubles format, with Nick Berry and Paul Trevett teaming up to take a tight battle 40-31 and then Ade Smith and Cliff Gould doing likewise with a 35-27 scoreline.
But the Amber Valley cuemen held their nerve as the two Smiths, Des and John, steadied the ship with a 44-15 triumph to see their side over the line to reach the final against Belper Strutt Club in a couple of weeks time.

In the T & M Motors League, Ben Monk's run of 44 was the leading contribution as he scored 99 points and the still unbeaten Andrew Beardsley a century as Alfreton No 2 ran out 3-2 winners at Crich Comrades No 2.
Ady Lowe salvaged some pride for the hosts as he struck in both his singles and doubles legs.

Belper Strutt Club moved to within one point of the top with a 4-1 home victory over Bolehill No 2. Darren Bunting had given the visitors an early advantage but from thereon it was one-way traffic with Wayne Shooter who top scored instigating the comeback with a narrow second frame success.

Bolehill No 1 are a point ahead after their 3-2 verdict over Whitworth Institute with Colin Marchington and Simon Zoppi in fine form before Mark Gwynne-Jones ground out wins in his singles and doubles  legs, latterly with the help of captain Geoff Brailsford.

And reigning champions Matlock Golf Club were also in the winners enclosure after a 3-2 defeat of Edgefold Club on Chesterfield Road.
Graham Jones made the game safe with a fourth frame success after Ian McKay had set the ball rolling before Duncan Harwood and Rob Muxlow reduced the scoreline to the minimum margin in the concluding pairs leg.

Bob McCartin Six Red Cup semi final result: Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 1 4, Crich Comrades No 1 3.
League week 9 results: Crich Comrades No 2 2, Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 3 3; Belper Strutt Club 4, Bolehill Institute No 2 1; Bolehill Institute No 1 3, Whitworth Institute 2; Matlock Golf Club 3, Edgefold Matlock 2.
