EDGEFOLD No 2 SECURE SEMI FINAL SPOT IN THRILLER

JUSTIN WELLER helped BELPER STRUTT CLUB into the semis
FOUR places were up for grabs in the Captains Cup Team Aggregate competition semi finals as the final round of group games took place in the local clubs.
Edgefold No 2 travelled to Alfreton Palmer Morewood for the second time in as many weeks knowing they needed a positive result in Group B to book their place and once again they achieved the feat in a breathtaking finale to top the group.
Alfreton had made all the early running, with father and son Kevin and Jamie Rowland each getting the better of tight frames to hand them a 16pts lead early doors.
Simon Mayes soon increased this to 45 but a 73-45 win for Tom Chambers (21 break) put the game in the balance before he and Rob Dicken (27 break) secured the doubles leg 85-41 to complete the turnaround.

Bolehill No 1 needed a 254pts win at Matlock Golf Club to oust Alfreton from the runners up spot, which was always highly unlikely and so it proved though they did take the spoils 307-264.
Ian McKay (31 break) virtually put paid to any chance in the opening frame with a 93-42 success though Colin Marchington and Ian Birks were in excellent form for the victors in later frames.

Belper Strutt Club topped Group A after a 309-246 verdict over Bolehill No 2, who also qualify as Matlock Club could not gain the victory they needed in their concluding match.
Justin Weller and Keith Robertson top scored for their respective teams.

Edgefold No 1 kept Matlock Club at bay 344-312 despite losing three of the five frames on Dale Road, thanks largely to Nathan Haymes who amassed 101 points in a barnstorming display of potting. Paul Bryan top scored for the hosts.

LATEST SEMI FINAL AND FINAL DATES, MORE TO FOLLOW

THE draw for the OMYA Cup semi finals and Bob McCartin Six Red Cup final arrangements were decided recently.
As agreed by the committee, dates will be put on the matches again this season, though you can play them in advance of the set date by mutual agreement.

If someone doesn't contact the opposition and then fails to show, they are eliminated obviously.
Matches to be played off the latest handicaps on the scheduled date of the ties (if any are delayed and handicaps change subsequently, the original match handicap will stand).

MATLOCK CLUB EDGE THRILLER TO STAY IN THE HUNT

DAVE ALLEN was on target for MATLOCK CLUB
THREE matches took place in the second round of group games in this season's Captains Cup team aggregate competition.
Tightest contest of the trio was at Bolehill Institute where the No 2 team almost staged a stirring comeback as they hosted Matlock Club in Group A despite winning only the final doubles leg.
The first four frames all went to the visitors by narrow margins with Graeme Wood and Paul Holmes setting the tone with black ball successes.
Captain Keith Manlove's 62-51 win in frame three and Dave Allen's 63-49 triumph in the final singles leg soon saw their team 36pts ahead.
However, a valiant effort from home pairing Keith Robertson and Ian Peacock eroded that to just nine points at the conclusion, 270-279 to leave both teams still in contention for a semi final spot.

Belper Strutt Club hold pole position in the group, defeating Edgefold No 1 340-264 for their second win in as many outings.
Robert Muxlow's 27 break with a colours clearance snatched the opener on the black for the visitors but emphatic wins for Paul Jarrett and the Steve Bullock / Wayne Shooter combo in the pairs leg made sure of home glory.

Bolehill No 1 needed their 315-263 verdict over Edgefold No 2 to keep their hopes alive to leave both teams in with a chance going into their final matches.
Colin Marchington and Ricki Slack (32 break) were in excellent form for the victors while Rob Dicken took both his singles and doubles frames for the Matlock outfit.
