NEWS FROM THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
THE League held the 2014 Annual General Meeting on Thursday July 24th at Matlock Conservative Club.
Present were Ricki Slack (Bolehill Inst); Jim McCann (Whitworth Inst); Robert Lowe (Tansley Potters); Charlie Hodgkinson and Richard Deakin (Matlock Cons); Dave Pownall (Belper Strutt Club/Quarndon), Martyn Taylor and Rob Dickin (Edgefold Club Matlock) and Jamie Rowland (Alfreton Palmer Morewood Club).
Apologies for non attendance were received from Sean O'Sullivan and Steve Hawkins (Hartington RBL), Steve Bullock and Dave Needham (Belper Strutt Club) and Scott Simcox (Jaxx Q Club Belper).
Minutes of the last AGM were read and signed.
Matters arising coming out of that were that Jim McCann confirmed Elliott Carpets would again be sponsoring the Billiards League and Jamie Rowland confirmed he would like to sponsor the Snooker League for the forthcoming season with his business J K Interiors and Joinery Services.
Ricki reported that Nigel Bond had been pleased to accept the role of Patron following in the footsteps of his late father Graham.
The balance sheet was presented showing we had made a minor profit for the year (when taking into account delayed honorarium payments to Jim McCann) though we tried to put most of it back into the playing side so all teams got value for money.
Again Ricki Slack took slightly less than the full honorarium agreed in order that prize money remained unaffected with fewer teams playing snooker than in previous years.
Proposed Jim McCann and seconded Charlie Hodgkinson that the balance sheet be accepted and Jim also proposed a vote of thanks for the work during the year of the General Secretary/Treasurer which was seconded by Robert Lowe.
All officials proposed to be elected as per last season en bloc by Charlie Hodgkinson, this was seconded by Dave Pownall and carried unanimously.
Honorariums were agreed to remain as per last season.
No proposals for rule amendments or additions were received.
Snooker entry forms were distributed to those attending and the rest will be emailed or posted within the following week (also available in downloads, see right hand column).
With more teams expressing an interest for the forthcoming season, Ricki said if all came forward by the next meeting that we could most likely hold the Registration Fees to £10 per team along with the usual match fees.
2014/15 Snooker Registration Meeting to be held Thursday, August 28th (7.45pm) at Matlock Conservative Club and the Billiards equivalent to be held earlier in the same week (date/venue to be confirmed).
There being no other business, meeting closed at 8.40pm.

AGM DATE AND NEWS FROM END OF SEASON MEETING
The date for the ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING has been set and will be on THURSDAY, JULY 24th (7.45pm) at MATLOCK CONSERVATIVE CLUB.
All teams should be represented at this meeting as some of the more significant issues of the year are likely to be addressed as always.
So if captains or club representatives can't attend please send a replacement instead so we get a meaningful voting platform on the night - from a snooker angle this and the pre season registration meeting are occasions when we really do need your presence.
Any proposed rule amendments need to be in the hands of the secretary two weeks prior to the date of the AGM.
During the meeting, the snooker secretary Ricki Slack said that things had run much smoother this season compared to the previous season, with all competitions pretty much running as scheduled and most league matches going ahead as planned.
Although we were down to only seven teams, it was a successful and enjoyable season with a snooker league sponsorship for the first time in many years and also the prospect of one or two new teams who had expressed a firm interest in competing next time around.
One match had been claimed under the less than 24hrs of cancellation rule and also one scoresheet was mislaid (though we did obtain approximate scores from those involved) whilst due to one of last seasons winners moving south we didn't receive the pairs trophy in time to present it on finals night but those issues apart, all went well.
The inputting of results was also helped by snapshots of the scoresheet being sent by picture messaging to the league phone.
We hadn't been able to arrange an inter league match with the Buxton and Hope Valley League team this season as they couldn't get a team to travel in the required timescale despite us giving plenty of notice, so we will try to contact the relevant committees officially next season to try and see if there is any interest.
From the billiards standpoint, Rob Lowe said they too enjoyed a successful season, and we were all very pleased to see Steve Hawkins at the meeting who had recently suffered a serious condition resulting in time spent in hospital.
It had been agreed that he and his opponent Adam Stewart would share the trophy for the Williams Cup competition in which they had reached the final and had been unable to play.
The billiards presentation night had been already agreed for the evening of Saturday, July 5th at Whitworth Institute.
Present at meeting: R Slack (secretary/treasurer, Bolehill Inst); J McCann (billiards match sec, Whitworth Inst); R Lowe (chairman, Tansley Potters); S O'Sullivan and S Hawkins (Hartington RBL); C Parker, C Hodgkinson and R Deakin (Matlock Cons); D Pownall and P Darby (Belper Strutt Club).

CHRIS AND ADAM BRING CURTAIN DOWN WITH PAIRS WIN
![]() |
| DENIS MORTON TROPHY finalists: L-R: Mark Newby and Steve Bullock with Chris Stubbs and Adam Winson. |
With the pairings knowing so much about each others game, it always seemed likely to be a cagey battle and so it proved but a string of consistent teen breaks from Stubbs in the opener saw himself and Winson draw first blood with a 60-11 frame scoreline.
Stubbs was soon in again with 24 in the next and the No 2 team pairing led by 18 with 22 left on the table before the unlucky Newby inadvertently knocked in the pink to leave snookers required and eventually it became 2-0.
The next frame saw Stubbs finish the job by taking the blue with the rest for 3-0 and leading by 20 with just the colours left in frame four, thoughts were turning to a possible clean sweep.
Bullock had other ideas, however, and took yellow to pink in a timely burst of potting to leave it resting on the black.
And after a safety exchange, Newby converted a long range cut into the bottom pocket to pull one back at 3-1.
However, this proved to be a short term reprieve as once again the No 2 pairing set the tone from the break off in the next and eventually ran out 53-24 winners when Winson despatched the blue into the middle pocket for an excellent 4-1 success.
Denis Morton Trophy (Pairs Handicap) final: Chris Stubbs / Adam Winson 4, Steve Bullock / Mark Newby 1 (at Belper Strutt Club).
Breaks: C Stubbs 24.
Note: There will be no inter league game this season as the visitors could not raise a team, hopefully we can sort something out for next time around.
