WAYNE AND STRUTT CLUB SHOOT DOWN EDGEFOLD No 1

WAYNE SHOOTER helped STRUTT CLUB to the top of Group A
BELPER STRUTT CLUB stormed to the top of Group A in the latest round of Bob McCartin Six Red Cup matches courtesy of a 5-2 home win over league champions Edgefold No 1.
Rob Muxlow, in fine form for the visitors this season, had the champs in front early doors but Paul Jarrett and Wayne Shooter hit back quickly before the ever reliable Justin Weller made it 3-1 soon afterwards.
Further wins for captain Steve Bullock and Newby and then Shooter and Jarrett in the scotch doubles left the Edgefold cuemen in a distressed state but Duncan Harwood and Jason Ankers showed their grit with a clearance of 22 to  reduce the arrears in the final frame of the night.

Crich Comrades also scored an excellent 5-2 at last weeks conquerors Edgefold No 2. with Keith Fretwell and Cliff Gould joint top scoring whilst Sean Dobney continued his good run for the vanquished.

Group B remains tight with Matlock Golf Club joining Bolehill No 1 on eight points after a 4-3 success came courtesy of a trio of wins in singles and scotch doubles from Ian McKay whilst Simon Zoppi's 22 clearance to take frame two was the highlight for the hosts.

Bolehill No 2 and Matlock Club are just two points adrift with the Wirksworth men edging a 4-3 verdict with Keith Robertson and Ian Peacock winning the decisive doubles frame after Graeme Wood had given the Dale Road cuemen an early advantage.

SEAN IN FINE FETTLE AS EDGEFOLD No 2 GO FOURTH

SEAN DOBNEY was at his breakbuilding best for EDGEFOLD No 2
SEAN DOBNEY was the prime architect as Edgefold No 2 defeated Crich Comrades 4-1 to move into fourth position in the early stages of this season's Ashford Arms Premier Division.
Dobney notched breaks of 45,38 and 22 as he won each of his singles and doubles legs to lift the T & M Motors of Belper player of the week mantle, latterly achieving a century points haul in combination with captain Rob Dicken.
Dicken had earlier given the home team a 2-0 advantage after Tom Chambers had taken a tight opener whilst Ady Lowe was the only Crich player to get on the winners rostrum.

There was also an emphatic win for Edgefold No 1 who are four points clear after a 5-0 romp at Bolehill No 1.
Rob Muxlow had runs of 22 and 20 and Duncan Harwood notched a fine break of 32 as the biggest obstacle to their winning streak on the night came from an electricity cut which lasted almost half an hour.

Belper Strutt Club scored a fine 4-1 win at Alfreton Palmer Morewood with Paul Jarrett securing the decisive frame after Ryan Taylor had put the hosts in front early doors.

Matlock Golf Club remain second with a 3-2 success at Matlock Club with Graham Jones (breaks of 28 and 24) top scoring.
Mick Mackfall was victorious in both singles and doubles legs for the Dale Road outfit.

CRICH ARE BACK IN CLOVER AFTER THIRTY YEARS AWAY

ADE SMITH played a captains knock for CRICH COMRADES
CRICH COMRADES romped to their first win in this seasons Ashford Arms Premier Division with a 4-1 verdict at Bolehill No 2 following their return to the fold after almost thirty years away.
Ady Lowe took the opener before after Keith Robertson equalised for the home team by taking his frame on the pink.
However, captain Ade Smith took this week's T & M Motors Player of the Week award by defeating Ian Peacock on the black and then filling in again as reserve to defy the obligatory points penalty to make it 3-1 with their usual fourth player unavailable on the night.
And after a tight battle in the doubles leg, it was Cliff Gould, partnered by Lowe, who sunk the deciding black to chalk up a historic victory.

Edgefold No 1 defeated Alfreton Palmer Morewood 3-2 on the final black in the doubles from 2-0 down with Duncan Harwood and Jason Ankers doing the business after Rob Muxlow had top scored.
Ryan Taylor and Derek Smith had made the early running for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Matlock Golf Club also triumphed by the minimum margin against Edgefold No 2 with Charlie Hodgkinson top scoring whilst Sean Dobney was in fine form in both singles and doubles for the away team.

And Belper Strutt Club also won 3-2 as they overcame Matlock Club on Campbell Street. Graeme Wood put the visitors ahead but a strong performance from Wayne Shooter set the tone for a hard fought home win.

JOY FOR GOLF CLUB WITH FOUR BLACK BALL DECIDERS

TONY BLANT ... winning partner in decisive scotch doubles legs
THERE were some extremely hard fought games in the next stage of group stage matches in the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup and nonemoreso than in the Group B fixture between Matlock Golf Club and Matlock Club which went down to the final black.
In fact, things started as they finished with Ian McKay and Paul Roe each taking their frames likewise on the final black to give their team a 2-0 lead.
Paul Holmes and Dave Benson reduced the deficit in the first of the scotch doubles legs which was brought forward and then Graeme Wood and Benson again gave Matlock Club the advantage for the first time.
However, both remaining scotch doubles legs went to the Golfers on the crunch ball, making it four black ballers they had won during the evening as Graham Jones and Tony Blant equalised and then Roe and Blant taking a tense finale with a clearance of the last few colours.

Bolehill No 1 defeated Bolehill No 2 5-2 in the other Group B match with Colin Marchington's 22 clearance in the opener setting the tone while Mick Bunting took his singles and doubles legs for the vanquished.

In Group A, there were 4-3 wins for Belper Strutt Club and Edgefold No 1 over Alfreton Palmer Morewood and Crich Comrades respectively.
Guy Taylor and Justin Weller top scored in the aforementioned fixture whilst Robert Muxlow and Ade Lowe were the star performers in the remaining match, which saw Crich 3-2 ahead before the Matlock side fought back to secure victory.

EDGEFOLD No 1 MAKE THE EARLY RUNNING IN REPEAT BID

JUSTIN WELLER ... 30 break and wins in singles and doubles
BOTH Edgefold teams were off to a flyer last week with four points apiece and the pair clashed on Edge Road in week 2 of the Ashford Arms Premier Division in a game which saw the No 1 team continue their quest for a second successive league title in fine style.
However, it was Rob Dickin who struck first for the No 2 cuemen before Jason Ankers (27 break) equalised in the next.
Neil Parkinson made it 2-1 and then Rob Muxlow (26 break) secured the victory before Parkinson and Ankers put the icing on the cake by taking a tight doubles leg.

Matlock Golf Club move second after a 4-1 win over new boys Crich Comrades with Ian McKay top scoring before Ade Lowe and John Smith averted the whitewash in the concluding pairs frame.

Belper Strutt Club came from two down to defeat Bolehill No 2 3-2 on Campbell Street. Kevin Munnelly top scored for the visitors but Justin Weller (30 break) took each of his singles and doubles frames to earn himself the T & M Motors player of the week mantle.

A tight contest was also fought out as Bolehill No 1 edged out Matlock Club 3-2 on the pink in the deciding frame, Ricki Slack's 54 break proving pivotal after he had also secured a century points haul in the singles.
Mick Mackfall had equalised at 2-2 in one of three black ball deciders on the night.

ROBBO IS BACK IN GREAT NICK AFTER SUMMER RECESS

KEITH ROBERTSON started the new season in devastating form
BOLEHILL No 2's mercurial cueman Keith Robertson opened up with a barnstorming performance in week 1 of the newly sponsored Ashford Arms Premier Division, scoring breaks of 55 and 47 as he ran away unchallenged with the T & M Motors Player of the Week award.
Matlock Golf Club were the unfortunate team on the receiving end, having been already looking down the barrel when Kevin Munnelly took the opener for the hosts.
Paul Roe equalised in the next before Robertson took centre stage to ensure a 3-2 verdict, taking his singles and doubles legs emphatically with Charlie Hodgkinson  levelling in between.

Each of the Edgefold teams won 4-1 with the No 1 team recovering from Graeme Wood's early salvo for Matlock Club as Jason Ankers and Duncan Harwood took both their singles and doubles.

Edgefold No 2, as in last week's six red cup, defeated Belper Strutt Club with Josh Lee top scoring on his return to action though Mark Newby and Paul Jarrett avoided the whitewash in the pairs.

Alfreton Palmer Morewood's erstwhile squad men Andrew Haggarty and Guy Taylor saw the hosts 2-0 up against Bolehill No 1 and they were safely home and hosed by the time Ricki Slack's run of 32 in the concluding doubles reduced the arrears to the minimum margin.

MIXED FORTUNES FOR EDGEFOLD TEAMS IN SIX RED CUP

THE NEW snooker season opened with two matches in Group A of the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup, both played at Edgefold Club on the same evening.
Holders Belper Strutt Club fell 4-3 at Edgefold No 2 after levelling three times but Richard Ferguson and Tom Chambers kept cool heads in the scotch doubles to see the home side off to a winning start.

Edgefold No 1 were also defeated by the minimum margin with visitors Alfreton Palmer Morewood going 3-0 up early doors before the hosts rallied to 2-3.
Guy Taylor and Ralph Edgson secured victory in the next scotch doubles leg but home reserve Sean Dobney teamed up with Jason Ankers to notch a fine break of 35 in the concluding pairs to keep everything very tight in the group table.
