CLASSY PJ'z RIPLEY No 1 GET TITLE BOOST AT RIGHT TIME

PJ'z CLUB No 1 of RIPLEY made what could be a decisive move this week by beating nearest rivals at the time Bolehill Institute No 1 4-1 to move six points clear in A Division with only four games remaining.
Andrew Brough rocked the hosts with a storming performance to put the visitors 1-0 up but from thereon the class of the home side came through as the remaining singles matches were won by Andrew Gratton, John Smith and late stand-in Simon Colebourne.
Ben Monk's 40 break in the concluding doubles match rubber stamped the win.

Matlock's Edgefold Club went second courtesy of a 3-2 success over Belper Strutt Club No 1.
Martyn Taylor contributed what is fast becoming his regular weekly break of note with a 43 in the deciding doubles match, partnered by Duncan Harwood who won both frames he was involved in.
Justin Weller, aided by a 26 break, and Wayne Shooter were successful for the visitors.

Bolehill Institute No 2 got back to winning ways with a 4-1 home win over the Matlock Club.
Sean O'Sullivan and Dwayne Martin won both their singles and doubles matches with Mark Walker on target in a rare appearance for the opposition.

In B Division, no quarter was given by the runaway pair Matlock Golf Club and Jaxx Q Club No 1 of Belper who are now locked together on 41 points.

The Golf Club won 4-1 at Jaxx Q Club No 2 with Chris Parker and Graham Jones successful in both frames they contested while Andy Hayes won his fifth game in six outings for the home team.

Jaxx No 1 took all five points from PJ'z No 2 of Ripley with Paul Ogden and Kevin Holmes top scoring in their doubles match at the end of the night to complete the maximum haul.

Bolehill No 3 remained in third place after a 3-2 win at Belper Strutt Club No 2.
Mick Bunting and Ian Cresswell kept their cool to seal the win in the deciding doubles match after Martin Forster and Fred Doran had top scored earlier for their respective teams.

JUST A reminder that all match, registration and entry fees need to be in by this Friday, February 24th as this is 7 days after the week of the designated meeting for final payments, which was the agreed cut-off point by the committee.
Teams not having settled by then must have 2pts deducted with immediate effect and this has to be repeated for each further week they are owing, as voted in at the AGM.
The final instalment is only £40 in most cases anyhow, so it should hopefully have been quite easy to get just  a fiver off each of the players for two consecutive weeks (in theory anyway lol). And then nowt to pay for the rest of the year!! And all points intact!! And what do points make ..... prizes (we hope)!!!

Sean O'Sullivan of Bolehill Institute No 2 now goes on to scratch (from -5).
Fred Doran of Belper Strutt Club No 2 now goes on to +10 (from +5).

PACE-SETTING PAIR SHOW NO SIGNS OF LETTING UP

THE action hotted up in B Division this week with just one point now separating runaway pair Matlock Golf Club and Jaxx Q Club No 1 of Belper after each gained impressive victories.
The Golf Club defeated PJ'z No 2 of Ripley 4-1 with Graham Jones scoring a century haul of points and Chris Parker notching breaks of 36 and 20 after Gary Day had put the visitors ahead early doors.

Their closest rivals went one better however by defeating neighbours Belper Strutt Club No 2 5-0. Wade Morley made an impressive debut, top scoring while Steve Robinson contributed a useful 27 break in his win.

The section's other match saw a second successive victory for the No 2 team from Jaxx Q Club who edged out Bolehill Institute No 3 3-2. Andy Hayes and John Williams were the main architects, winning both their singles and doubles frames while Gary Woodward top scored for the home side.

The gap narrowed between the second and third placed teams in A Division as Edgefold Club of Matlock prevailed 3-2 at Bolehill Institute No 1.

Martyn Taylor, with a 39 break, and Rob Muxlow won both frames they contested while Simon Zoppi was top points scorer for the hosts.

PJ'z Ripley No 1 capitalised on that result by winning 4-1 at Matlock Club to stretch their lead at the top to four points. Ben Monk and Andrew Gratton had breaks of 33 and 28 respectively after Keith Manlove had put the hosts ahead in the opener with a black ball victory over John Smith.

The other match was a battle of the play-off hopefuls which saw Belper Strutt Club No 1 triumph 3-2 over Bolehill Institute No 2.

Steve Bullock won both his frames for the hosts, the singles after his opponent had gone in off the final black, whilst Keith Robertson continued his good run for the visitors, winning his ninth frame in ten starts in convincing fashion.

LATEST COMPETITION DRAWS / MATCH FEES REMINDER

THE draws for the latest round competitions were made recently at the meeting held at Jaxx Q Club, Belper. Balls were pulled out by Alan Hopkinson.
As agreed by the committee, dates are to be put on the matches this season, though you can play them in advance of the set date if it is before the semi final stage which neutral venues come into play.
You must re-arrange with your opponent if a date is not suitable (please give at least 48hrs notice and preferably more) and re-schedule it within 7 days, failing agreement you can apply to the match secretary for a further 7 days to play it.
If someone doesn't contact the opposition and then fails to show, they are expunged obviously.

All advertised venues for semi finals/finals are provisional at the moment as some need to be confirmed; any changes will be communicated to the players involved.
All clubs will get a fair share of semi final and final dates, any clubs not involved so far (due to logistics) should host at least a couple of matches in the later rounds.

It is especially important that all outstanding match fees due are paid by Friday, February 24th as don't forget there is a new rule approved which means 2pts are deducted with immediate effect from that date and thereafter for every week passed that monies remain overdue.
The committee felt this was unfortunately necessary due to some serious problems last time around.
All captains should now have been contacted with details of how much their teams owe if anything.
The remaining semi final draws will be made at Bolehill Institute at an informal gathering on Sunday April 1st at approximately 9pm. Feel free to come along if you wish!

PJ'z No 1 WIN BATTLE OF LEADERS TO LAND FINAL PLACE

THE semi finals of the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup took centre stage this week with the leaders of their respective divisions Matlock Golf Club and PJ'z Ripley No 1 going head to head firstly at the Edgefold Club in a much anticipated clash.
Four times Derbyshire champ John Smith, now in his 80s, took on Chris Parker in the opening match-up and looked set fair when Chris needed a snooker with the last three balls remaining.

However, this was soon achieved before Chris potted blue and then pink only to see the cue ball go in off almost simultaneously with the object ball which ultimately saw the Ripley side take a 1-0 lead.

Ian McKay was soon off to a flyer against Ben Monk, taking a 30-0 lead but the PJ'z captain froze him out thereafter meaning he couldn't add to that total as Ben's class came to the fore for 2-0.

Frame three looked a must-win for the Golf Club and dual Derbyshire champion Graham Jones produced some wily snooker to put him in the driving seat against Lee Whatton. But with all three balls required and the pink over the pocket, the frame was still in the balance with Lee having a couple of chances before Graham finally put the game to bed.

Again it was the Golf Club player getting in first in the next with Nick Kay going 23-0 ahead against Andrew Gratton, before Andrew seized on the opportunity to dish up with an excellent 39 break, unfinished as he didn't attempt to pot the final black after just making sure of the pink.

The scotch doubles saw Ben Monk and James Rowland up against Graham Jones and Chris Parker, and this swung to and fro before resting on the final black, which Ben took with a stupendous raking long pot to the gasps of the audience, thus securing a final berth for his team.

The 4-1 scoreline may look comfortable but in reality all frames went down to blue, pink or black so it could really have gone either way.

The other semi final saw Matlock Club come from 3-1 down to defeat Belper Strutt Club No 2 4-3 in a thriller at Jaxx Q Club, Belper.

Dave Needham and Steve Buckley put the Belper side 2-0 up before Graeme Wood reduced arrears.

When Fred Doran defeated Keith Manlove on the black, it was the point of no return for the Matlock raiders.

But in the scotch doubles, Ian Rose and Paul Holmes soon pulled one back and then Paul stayed on the table to partner Keith Manlove to a black ball win over Adam Winson and David Devenport which left it all resting on the final frame.

And in a tense encounter it was Ian Rose and Chris Woodhouse who eventually saw their team into the final.

In the competitions, Neil Parkinson was in fine form with a highest break of 47 while Andrew Gratton also notched a 34, both in the individual handicap event.

PJ'Z RIPLEY No 1 AND MATLOCK GOLF CLUB BACK ON TOP

AFTER  a week of inactivity, PJ'z No 1 of Ripley surged back to the head of affairs in A Division with a resounding 5-0 win at Bolehill Institute No 3.

Ben Monk edged out Ian Cresswell on the final black in the opening frame but after that there were no further alarms as the visitors carved out a two-point cushion at the top of the table.

Martyn Taylor was again amongst the breaks in Edgefold Club's 4-1 win over Belper Strutt Club No 2 with contributions of 36, 28 and 20 in the same frame.

In the other game, Matlock Golf Club got back to winning ways bolstered by the return to the side of Chris Parker, who had breaks of 32 and 24 whilst Graham Jones top scored with 94pts.

Opponents Matlock Club were 3-0 down before Keith Manlove won both his singles and doubles matches to reduce the arrears to the minimum margin, but still enough for the home side to go back to the top of B Division.

There were also several noteworthy breaks in the individual competitions, the best of which were 83 and 40 from Ben Monk and Steve Bullock's 43, both in the OMYA Cup scratch event.
