IT'S THE DOBNEY SHOW AGAIN BUT CRICH No 1 ON A ROLL

NICK BERRY  added second frame for CRICH No 1
THE HEADLINES once again go to Edgefold's Sean Dobney who struck a magnificent break of 74 to top the charts for a second time, hot on the heels of a previous effort of 55. But teamwise, Crich Comrades No 1 are quietly gathering momentum, scoring their third league win in the last four outings.
Whitworth Institute travelled to School Lane but it was the home team's Paul Trevett who scored a 65-48 success to put the hosts in front.
Nick Berry added a very tight second frame before Mick Ferguson pulled one back for the Darley Dale cuemen.
However Trevett, appearing for a second time with the extra handicap on tow due to player shortages, defied the odds to secure certain victory for the Tramwaymen before Geoff Brailsford and Ferguson reduced arrears to the minimum margin in the concluding doubles frame.

Dobney, mentioned above, was another player to successfully double up with his team a man down as Edgefold overcame Bolehill No 2 3-2 and also added the doubles leg with the help of partner Duncan Harwood.
Mick Bunting top scored for the visitors.

Bolehill No 1 edged out Matlock Golf Club 3-2 with Ricki Slack and Ian Birks winning the deciding doubles leg with a fluked pink after Tony Blant and Graham Jones has nudged the golfers ahead.

Belper Strutt Club cut short Crich No 2's stay at the top with a 4-1 home victory in which Justin Weller was successful in each of his singles and doubles legs while only Martyn Caylow could register for the vanquished.

And in all the all-Alfreton Palmer Morewood clash, the No 1 team registed their opening league victory with a 3-2 verdict over the No 2 outfit.
Des Smith top scored for the victors and also added the deciding doubles frame for good measure with brother John while Andrew Beardsley maintained his good start to the season for their local rivals.

In the OMYA Cup individual competition, the tightest match saw Joe Neville overcome Steven Clark on a respotted black after five highly competitive frames.

JOE IS STAR TURN AS BOLEHILL TEAMS ENJOY ROAD TRIPS

JOE NEVILLE ... continuing to roll back the years
IF LAST week belonged to the cuemen of Crich Comrades, it was a triumphant few days for Bolehill Institute this time around with each of their teams recording victories on their travels, the No 2 team bringing home the bacon from Whitworth Institute courtesy of a 3-2 success and their No 1 counterparts delivering a 4-1 verdict at Edgefold Club.
Joe Neville, with a superb 39 break ensuring his fifth straight win, showed that his prowess around the snooker table remains undiminished  while another perennial evergreen, home team captain Geoff Brailsford, was his ever reliable self in registering for the vanquished.

Colin Marchington and Ian Birks also continued their impressive early season form for the No 1 team before Sean Dobney and James Travis stemmed the tide for the hosts  in the concluding doubles leg.

Crich Comrades No 2 hit the summit of the league for the first time as they produced the perfect performance en route to defeating Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 1 5-0.
Ady Lowe (36 break) achieved a unique hat-trick on the night, winning each of his singles legs (defying the extra handicap in the second of them with his team a player short) before partnering namesake Jack to victory to complete the Tramwaymen's nap hand.

And in the other fixture Belper Strutt Club twice came from behind as they overcame Crich Comrades No 1 3-2 with Wayne Shooter on target in each of his singles and doubles legs after Paul Trevett and Cliff Gould had put the visiting team temporarily into the ascendancy.

CRICH TEAMS EARN STIRRING VICTORIES AT HOME & AWAY

ADE SMITH ... double trouble for Matlock Golf Club

CRICH COMRADES had a fantastic week all round with each of their teams victorious coming through tough matches with the No 2 team pipping Edgefold at home (3-2) and the No 1 cuemen travelling back from Matlock Golf Club with the same narrow decision.
Sean Dobney rocketed to the top of the breaks chart in the opener against Crich No 2 with a fine run of 55 before Jack Lowe scored his fourth win in five games to equalise.
James Travis edged the Matlock team back in front with a narrow success but again it was level after Graeme Wood turned on the style in a 90-42 verdict in frame four.
And in a tight deciding doubles leg, Ady and Jack Lowe took the honours for the Tramwaymen 50-38 after a tough battle.

Ade Smith and Cliff Gould each reached 90pts in the No 1 side's triumph with Smith going on to defy the extra handicap with a player down on the night and ensure victory forthwith.
Les Mooney (31 break) was his ever-dependable self for the golfers.

Elsewhere, Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 2 regained top position on the most wins rule, defeating Belper Strutt Club 3-2 with Ben Monk taking each of his singles and doubles legs while Steve Bullock top scored for the hosts.

And in the all-Bolehill clash, the No 2 team emerged successful over their No 1 counterparts 3-2 despite Colin Marchington's excellent 36 break in the opener.
Joe Neville continued his great start to the league campaign for the victors before Keith Robertson wrapped up the win.

NIGEL IS BACK TO WHERE IT ALL STARTED FOR CHARITY

NIGEL BOND (second from right) with challengers from Edgefold Club.
AS WELL as the usual schedule of weekly fixtures, several players from the league also tried their luck for charity against professional player Nigel Bond, once of the League himself, at the Edgefold Club, and though none were successful, the night itself was a great success raising a princely sum for Mentell, the mens mental health charity.
It also provided a rare chance to witness a top sportsman at close quarters locally, who duly delivered with nine breaks of 55 and over including a 96 in the twelve frames he contested.
Thanks go to organiser Sean Dobney for his unwavering efforts in making the event happen and also of course to Nigel himself, now sponsored by local firm Bulldog Billiards, for giving up his valuable time before the UK Championship and putting on such a sterling show.

JOSH SHOWS PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE AS HE ROMPS TO WIN

JOSH LEE... inaugural singles win
PRIDE of place this week goes to Edgefold Club's Josh Lee who contested the COVID delayed 19/20 Open Individual Handicap final against Bolehill's Keith Robertson and ran out a ready 4-1 winner to mark his inaugural singles victory.
Successful what seems many moons ago in previous rounds against Paul Trevett (3-2), Andrew Haggarty (3-2), Rob Muxlow (3-1) and Ady Lowe (3-1), Josh turned in a polished display to pocket the coveted prize.
Despite there being a further delay of an hour as his opponent had confused dates, Lee was straight into his stride to race 3-0 ahead before Robertson pulled one back in an uphill struggle to get back into the match.
But Lee was in no mood to falter by now and another solid performance in frame five saw him home.

Meanwhile, the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup had reached the final round of group matches and Alfreton No 1 topped Group C on the most wins rule after seeing off Bolehill No 2 5-2 who were thus eliminated.
Des Smith added yet another consecutive win to his impressive start to the season for the hosts before Joe Neville, himself in fine fettle, equalised in the next.
Andrew Haggarty and Keith Robertson shared the next two frames before the Amber Valley cuemen took control in the scotch doubles, taking all three legs courtesy of Haggarty teaming up with D Smith and Phil Longden before the two Smiths, John and Des again, rounded off proceedings with aplomb.

Bolehill No 1 travelled to Crich No 1,who were the team most in need of points out of the pair and they duly obliged with a 4-3 verdict with Dan Gould top scoring as they poached a 3-0 advantage.
The visitors fought back gamely to equalise after Ian Birks had got them on the scoreboard but eventually Paul Trevett and Nick Berry steered the Tramwaymen over the line.

Whitworth Institute were the other team to miss out on the knockout stage despite a valiant effort in a 4-3 defeat to Matlock Golf Club.
Mick Ferguson top scored for the hosts while Graham Jones was on target twice in the singles legs, defying the extra handicap with his team a player down on the night.

Elsewhere Alfreton No 2 ensured their place in the next phase courtesy of a 4-3 win over Crich No 2.

Open Individual Handicap final 19/20: Josh Lee (Edgefold) 4, Keith Robertson (Bolehill No 2) 1.
Bob McCartin Six Red Cup, Group A: Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 2 4, Crich Comrades No 2 3; Whitworth Institute 3, Matlock Golf Club 4. Group B: Crich Comrades No 1 4, Bolehill Institute No 1 3. Group C: Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 1 5, Bolehill Institute No 2 2.
Breaks: M Gwynne-Jones / G Brailsford 24 (scotch doubles).
