IT'S THE DOBNEY SHOW AGAIN BUT CRICH No 1 ON A ROLL
NICK BERRY added second frame for CRICH No 1 |
Whitworth Institute travelled to School Lane but it was the home team's Paul Trevett who scored a 65-48 success to put the hosts in front.
Nick Berry added a very tight second frame before Mick Ferguson pulled one back for the Darley Dale cuemen.
However Trevett, appearing for a second time with the extra handicap on tow due to player shortages, defied the odds to secure certain victory for the Tramwaymen before Geoff Brailsford and Ferguson reduced arrears to the minimum margin in the concluding doubles frame.
Dobney, mentioned above, was another player to successfully double up with his team a man down as Edgefold overcame Bolehill No 2 3-2 and also added the doubles leg with the help of partner Duncan Harwood.
Mick Bunting top scored for the visitors.
Bolehill No 1 edged out Matlock Golf Club 3-2 with Ricki Slack and Ian Birks winning the deciding doubles leg with a fluked pink after Tony Blant and Graham Jones has nudged the golfers ahead.
Belper Strutt Club cut short Crich No 2's stay at the top with a 4-1 home victory in which Justin Weller was successful in each of his singles and doubles legs while only Martyn Caylow could register for the vanquished.
And in all the all-Alfreton Palmer Morewood clash, the No 1 team registed their opening league victory with a 3-2 verdict over the No 2 outfit.
Des Smith top scored for the victors and also added the deciding doubles frame for good measure with brother John while Andrew Beardsley maintained his good start to the season for their local rivals.
In the OMYA Cup individual competition, the tightest match saw Joe Neville overcome Steven Clark on a respotted black after five highly competitive frames.

Crich Comrades No 2 hit the summit of the league for the first time as they produced the perfect performance en route to defeating Alfreton Palmer Morewood No 1 5-0.

NIGEL IS BACK TO WHERE IT ALL STARTED FOR CHARITY
![]() |
NIGEL BOND (second from right) with challengers from Edgefold Club. |
It also provided a rare chance to witness a top sportsman at close quarters locally, who duly delivered with nine breaks of 55 and over including a 96 in the twelve frames he contested.
Thanks go to organiser Sean Dobney for his unwavering efforts in making the event happen and also of course to Nigel himself, now sponsored by local firm Bulldog Billiards, for giving up his valuable time before the UK Championship and putting on such a sterling show.
JOSH SHOWS PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE AS HE ROMPS TO WIN

JOSH LEE... inaugural singles win |
Successful what seems many moons ago in previous rounds against Paul Trevett (3-2), Andrew Haggarty (3-2), Rob Muxlow (3-1) and Ady Lowe (3-1), Josh turned in a polished display to pocket the coveted prize.
Despite there being a further delay of an hour as his opponent had confused dates, Lee was straight into his stride to race 3-0 ahead before Robertson pulled one back in an uphill struggle to get back into the match.
But Lee was in no mood to falter by now and another solid performance in frame five saw him home.
Meanwhile, the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup had reached the final round of group matches and Alfreton No 1 topped Group C on the most wins rule after seeing off Bolehill No 2 5-2 who were thus eliminated.
Des Smith added yet another consecutive win to his impressive start to the season for the hosts before Joe Neville, himself in fine fettle, equalised in the next.
Andrew Haggarty and Keith Robertson shared the next two frames before the Amber Valley cuemen took control in the scotch doubles, taking all three legs courtesy of Haggarty teaming up with D Smith and Phil Longden before the two Smiths, John and Des again, rounded off proceedings with aplomb.
Bolehill No 1 travelled to Crich No 1,who were the team most in need of points out of the pair and they duly obliged with a 4-3 verdict with Dan Gould top scoring as they poached a 3-0 advantage.
The visitors fought back gamely to equalise after Ian Birks had got them on the scoreboard but eventually Paul Trevett and Nick Berry steered the Tramwaymen over the line.
Whitworth Institute were the other team to miss out on the knockout stage despite a valiant effort in a 4-3 defeat to Matlock Golf Club.
Mick Ferguson top scored for the hosts while Graham Jones was on target twice in the singles legs, defying the extra handicap with his team a player down on the night.
Elsewhere Alfreton No 2 ensured their place in the next phase courtesy of a 4-3 win over Crich No 2.
