JAXX EARN NARROW WIN TO CLOSE THE GAP ON SECOND

BEN TURNER got JAXX Q CLUB off to a flyer
WITH second placed Bolehill No 2 having their match postponed this week, there was a chance for Jaxx Q Club of Belper to gain ground in the race for the runner up spot and they made some inroads with a 3-2 home success over Edgefold No 2.
Ben Turner and Jak Groom (22 break) set the ball rolling in fine style for the hosts with comfortable victories but in form Luke Thomas pulled one back in the next to narrowly end the unbeaten run of Tim Maslin.
Craig Sheppard's black ball win made the game secure before the Matlock visitors took the consolation doubles frame.

Also in the mix for second but looking a little less likely due to their extra games played are Bolehill No 1 and Belper Strutt No 1.
Strutt edged past Alfreton Palmer Morewood 3-2 with Mark Newby and Steve Bullock taking the decisive doubles frame after Ben Monk (breaks of 27 and 25) and Simon Mayes (23 and 21) had turned on the style earlier for their respective teams.

And Bolehill defeated Matlock Club 4-1 with Graeme Wood giving the hosts the lead before the visitors turned the screw with Ricki Slack gaining a century points haul including breaks of 49, 27 and 25 on the night.

Leaders Edgefold No 1 look all but home and hosed as they continued to pile on the points courtesy of a 5-0 home win over Matlock Cons.
Duncan Harwood edged a narrow opener before powerhouses Richard Ferguson and Andy Russell (37 break) wrapped things up.

Russell also booked his place in the OMYA Cup Individual Scratch final with a 3-0 win over Chris Stubbs.

ANDY MAKES THE HISTORY BOOKS WITH A CLASSY TON

ANDY RUSSELL ... century break and century points haul in the same week!
BIGGEST news of the week came not in the League but in one of the individual cup competitions where Edgefold No 1's Andy Russell of Hulland Ward notched breaks of 104 and 54 in his Open Individual Handicap quarter final win over Jaxx's Ben Turner.
This was only the ninth recorded century and the joint fifth highest ever in League competition history, with Scott Cooney's 126 in the 2006 OMYA Cup at the top of the pile.
Russell was also in flying form in this weeks round of J K Interiors and Joinery Services League matches, with breaks of 40,22 and 20 during his singles and doubles wins, including a century points frame haul in the former.
The opposition on the night Alfreton Palmer Morewood had taken the early lead through Simon Mayes but after Rob Muxlow (26 break) had equalised there was no holding the league leaders.

LUKE THOMAS ... colours clearance made game safe for EDGEFOLD No 2
Second placed Bolehill No 2 were defeated 3-2 at Edgefold No 2 despite Ian Peacock getting them off to the best possible start with an 86-47 frame scoreline in the opener.
Jodie McLarkey levelled before Sean Dobney (38 break) and Keith Robertson (28 break) served up a thriller in the next which eventually went to the home player, his ninth win in eleven outings.
Luke Thomas was already in the driving seat before a 27 clearance made the game safe after which the visitors took the consolation doubles.

Matlock Club and Bolehill No 1 both bounced back to form with 4-1 wins, breaking losing stretches of five and seven respectively.
The Dale Road outfit scored a fine victory at Belper Strutt No 2, who went ahead through Chris Stubbs on the black but Paul Holmes top scored in the next and super-sub Dave Allen finished the job in some style.

Strutt No 1 were Bolehill's victims. Similarly, a black ball win for Wayne Shooter did not foretell what was about to unfold as the home side took the remaining frames starting with Simon Zoppi's equalising display of potting.

League week 13 results: Alfreton Palmer Morewood 1, Edgefold Matlock No 1 4; Edgefold Matlock No 2 3, Bolehill Institute No 2 2; Belper Strutt No 2 1, Matlock Club 4; Bolehill Institute No 1 4, Belper Strutt No 1 1; Matlock Cons v Jaxx Q Club Belper postponed.

ROB'S HALF CENTURY SEES EDGEFOLD No 1 THROUGH

ROBERT MUXLOW ... magnificent 54 break put EDGEFOLD No 1 in pole position
IT WAS quarter final stage of the Captains Cup team aggregate competition this week and three of the four games produced close finishes going well into the final frame.
Edgefold No 1 maintained their chances of pulling off the unheralded "Grand Slam" of all four main team competitions as they progressed courtesy of a 326-309 win over plucky visitors Matlock Club.
Richard Ferguson with a run of 47 secured a 20pts success in the opener before reserve Dave Allen upset the in form Andy Russell in the next despite the latter's 27 break.
But Rob Muxlow with a magnificent 54 break seemed to have put the tie beyond doubt, giving the hosts a 65pts lead with only two frames remaining.
However, an inspired Keith Manlove (22 break) scored an 86-49 win to give his team a shout and eventually it was left to Russell to take pink and black to make certain in the concluding doubles.

Their semi final opponents will be Matlock Cons, who came from behind to defeat Bolehill No 2 288-260.
Ian Peacock and Mick Bunting had the visitors off to a flyer, but from thereon it was the home side who dominated, with Nick Kay top scoring and Charlie Hodgkinson and Chris Parker scoring a 62-38 win in the decisive doubles leg.

Belper Strutt No 1 also progressed thanks to a great performance from Mark Newby and partner Wayne Shooter in the doubles after Ian Birks and Ricki Slack had put Bolehill No 1 back on terms following Ben Monk's 42 break during his black ball win in the opener.

Alfreton Palmer Morewood will now travel to Campbell Street after a convincing 328-217 victory over Jaxx Q Club.
Only Shaun Smith (26 break) could stem the tide for the Belper side, as Simon Mayes, Andrew Beardsley and Jamie Rowland all found some of their best form of the season.

In the OMYA Cup individual scratch semi final, Ricki Slack produced a 25 clearance to defeat Ben Monk 3-2 on the final black after fluking the blue from out of a snooker and then taking the pink to equalise in the previous frame.

EDGEFOLD No 1 STRETCH LEAGUE LEAD TO NINE POINTS

NEIL PARKINSON levelled matters for league leaders EDGEFOLD No 1
EDGEFOLD No 1 stretched their lead at the top of the J K Interiors and Joinery Services Snooker League to nine points courtesy of a 3-2 win over Bolehill Institute No 1 after coming from 2-1 down.
The first frame was nip and tuck and Simon Zoppi emerged the victor over Richard Ferguson after fluking the pink and then doubling the black after the home player was unable to get ideal position from the blue.
Andy Russell, fresh from a century break in practice at the weekend, quickly equalised before Andrew Brough had the visitors back in front soon afterwards.
From thereon though the prospective new champs went into overdrive and Neil Parkinson levelled things up before Rob Muxlow partnered Russell to success in the decisive doubles leg.

Second placed Bolehill No 2 fell 3-2 at home to Matlock Cons as Jack Lynch's fine long black proved pivotal in frame three before Nick Kay (21 break) sealed the deal after Mick Bunting had been on target for the hosts in a low scoring frame.

Jaxx Q Club kept up the pressure for the runners up spot as they edged their fixture with Alfreton Palmer Morewood on the final black with Jak Groom taking both his singles and doubles frames on the night after Kevin and Jamie Rowland had been victorious for the visitors.

The other two matches also finished in 3-2 scorelines as Edgefold No 2 earned the verdict at Belper Strutt No 2 thanks to a black ball win by Luke Thomas in frame four before an emphatic doubles success for Chris Stubbs and Dave Needham reduced the deficit.

And Belper Strutt No 1 just held sway over Matlock Club, Mark Newby and Keith Manlove top scoring for each team respectively.

MARK SAYER ... superb match winning reverse double
SOME GREAT matches as ever in this weeks J K Interiors and Joinery Services Snooker League with the closest game at Alfreton Palmer Morewood who hosted Bolehill Institute No 2.
Simon Mayes (24 break) inflicted only the second defeat of the season on opposition captain Mick Bunting in the opener before the visitors edged ahead with wins for Ian Peacock and Martin Forster.
77-years-young Ralph Edgson levelled things up beating one of the in form men of the season Keith Robertson but a cracking reverse double on the black from Mark Sayer in the deciding pairs leg settled the issue to keep Bolehill in second place.

Leaders Edgefold No 1 showed no sign of slacking with an excellent 4-1 win at Belper Strutt No 1. Richard Ferguson (37 break) and Andy Russell (30 break) each recorded their 9th win in 11 games whilst Mark Newby gained the only point for the hosts on the black.

Belper Strutt No 2's Chris Stubbs and Justin Weller were also amongst the breaks, both having runs of 40 in a 3-2 win at Matlock Cons, for whom Nick Kay top scored.

Edgefold No 2 moved off the foot of the table with a 4-1 verdict over Matlock Club, Martyn Taylor (30 & 22 breaks) opening his account for the season on the black before Mick McFall and Graeme Wood prevented the clean sweep in the doubles.

In the remaining game third placed Jaxx Q Club of Belper came back from Bolehill No 1 with a 3-2 win as Kevin Holmes produced a great display of potting in his singles leg to settle the issue after Neil Bowler had top scored for the hosts on his league debut.
