CLAY CROSS No1 STORM THROUGH INTO SIX RED FINAL

GRAHAM JONES ...  Player of the Week
WITH the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup final now being played at the end of the season, the remaining semi-final took centre-stage in a week of few team fixtures with Clay Cross Brotherhood No1 entertaining Alfreton Palmer Morewood No1 for a place in the grand showdown against Edgefold No1.
A hard fought opener went the way of Duncan Waring 28-20 and once again it was down to the wire in frame two but with the same end result as the home side's Graham Jones took it on the black 52-45 to put them two to the good.
Tony Blant's 42-15 victory put them on the cusp of qualification in the next and indeed, it was all over in four straight frames as Ian McKay ran up a 49-16 scoreline to complete an excellent night's work for the hosts.
A couple more frames were played out, and Jones and Waring combined to record the highest scotch doubles break so far with 26 in frame five before McKay and Blant made it six soon afterwards.

With a proposed re-arranged high-flying T & M Motors League clash between Alfreton No2 and Edgefold No1 sadly biting the dust for a second time, the remaining rescheduled fixture saw play-off hopefuls Tansley Potters take on bottom-placed Bolehill Institute No2.
Joe Neville secured the first frame 77-39 for the hosts but Owen Williams replied in similar fashion to take the next 73-47.
Steve Hawkins put Tansley back in front with a 77-42 salvo before the esteemed Martin Lawrence, playing as a stand-in for the absent Radford Neville, showed his class with an 86-47 powerhouse performance, exhibiting just how he had run up several century breaks in Sheffield snooker circles over the years.
Lawrence and Neville (J) then combined to take the doubles leg 72-58.

In the Classic Gas Bodyshop Billiards League, Bolehill Institute defeated Mayfield Institute 12-9 with Ricki Slack notching a break of 31 and Mark Jennings fighting back for a narrow verdict to reduce the arrears while Whitworth Institute saw off Tansley Potters 12-7 to remain just on top for now with Jim McCann edging his own cliffhanger and Rob Lowe gaining a rather more comfortable success.
