BOLEHILL No2 JUST GET THE BETTER OF EDGEFOLD No3

DALE SHAW ... set the ball rolling
THERE were a couple of very tight encounters in the quarter finals of the Captains Cup (Team Aggregate) knockout competition and none moreso than between Edgefold No3 and Bolehill No2 with just thirteen points separating the sides at the end in favour of the Wirksworth cuemen.
Dale Shaw ground out a 45-29 success in the opener in a competition where overall points decide the winner rather than outright frames won though Sam Kniveton replied with a 55-50 riposte shortly afterwards.
When Conrad Spencer took the next 47-36 the scores were level with two frames to play and Mick Bunting's 21 break proved the difference in frame four as he took a 48-27 victory.
That left Roy Taylor and Spencer needing a win of 22pts to overturn the lead but they could only manage a 58-50 verdict and despite taking three of the five frames, it was not quite enough overall under this different format.

Another thriller saw the two Clay Cross Brotherhood teams locking horns and Callum Greenfield's classy 37 break saw him run up an excellent 95-56 success to put the No2 team into the early ascendancy.
Graham Jones, enjoying a resurgance in form, hit back with a 62-40 reply but captain John Roseman piled on the pressure in the next with runs of 27 and 20 putting his side 47 points to the good with two frames left.
Despite Andrew Bailey's run of 24, Tony Blant secured the next  63-46 and although Jones and Ian McKay took the doubles 67-60 for the No1 team's third frame of the night it still left them 23 points adrift at close of play.

There was a more decisive result in the other scheduled contest but perhaps not the one many expected with second placed in the league Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 falling 333-247 to visitors Tansley Potters.
Ben Monk fired in an excellent 41 break in the opener though Radford Neville snatched it at the end for a 70-65 verdict and father Joe then took the next 59-49 in another competitive battle.
Adam Cupit and Joe Hawkins were locked together at 61 apiece after the third frame and the overall aggregate format meant there was no requirement to re-spot the black but the decisive frame came up next with Steve Hawkins  producing his performance of the season to run up an emphatic 89-28 scoreline.
His form also continued into the doubles leg with a run of 21 as he partnered Neville (J) to a 54-44 triumph to secure the Clay Cross Brotherhood sponsored Player of the Week accolade and set up his team for one of their best wins of the campaign.

Just one rearranged match in the Classic Gas Bodyshop Billiards League saw Bolehill Institute take a 14-6 win from Tansley Potters with Andrew Brough and Ricki Slack each successful by 90 points and 39 points respectively.
Jim McCann progressed to the final of Williams Cup Individual Handicap event with a 150-103 victory over Brough the night before at Bolehill.
