HARD FOUGHT BATTLE GOES THE WAY OF ALFRETON PM

TOM BROUGHTON ... unbeaten so far for ALFRETON

THE return of the T & M Motors Snooker League programme in the New Year saw leaders Belper Strutt Club  making the short journey to handily placed Alfreton Palmer Morewood hoping to maintain their healthy advantage at the top of the table.
Tom Broughton maintained his unbeaten record for the hosts in the opener with runs of 26 and 20 contributing to a 75-28 scoreline before Des Smith edged a much tighter second frame 39-31 to make it 2-0.
Paul Jarrett pulled one back for the visitors however with a 79-39 verdict in frame three and Wayne Shooter then levelled to leave all resting on the doubles leg.
And it was the old faithful Ben Monk who stepped up to the plate with a break of 32 settling the issue to lift himself and partner Andrew Haggarty over the line.

Bolehill No 1 stay second after a 4-1 win at Crich Comrades No 2. Ady Lowe was on target for the Tramwaymen but breaks of 28 for Colin Marchington and 35 for Ricki Slack in the concluding doubles helped the visitors into the winners enclosure.

Crich No 1 conversely scored a commanding 5-0 success at Bolehill No 2.with Ade Smith and Paul Trevett on fine form as were all six players turning out for the Comrades.

And Matlock Club are up to fourth in the table after a 4-1 defeat of Whitworth Institute. Geoff Brailsford put the Darley Dale cuemen into an early lead but Keith Manlove and Mick Mackfall took each of their singles and doubles legs to continue an excellent season.

Edgefold's Rob Dicken had runs of 49,35,30 and 28 as he reached the OMYA Cup Individual Scratch semi final courtesy of a 3-2 win over Ian McKay at Matlock Golf Club.
