ALFRETON No2 DEFEAT TANSLEY TO KEEP UP TITLE CHASE

CARLOS ZARAGOZA
ALFRETON PALMER MOREWOOD No2 took a 4-1 win from their T & M Motors League fixture with Tansley Potters and are now five points behind leaders Edgefold No2 with a game in hand.
Jack Lowe took a hard fought battle 65-48 to set them on the right path in the opening gambit and a black ball success for Carlos Zaragoza in frame two put them in a strong position.
Joe Hawkins fought hard to keep the visitors in the contest and took the last three balls for his own black ball win but the in form Adam Cupit sealed the deal with  a 73-39 victory in the remaining singles frame.
Cupit then teamed up with Lowe to take a keenly contested doubles frame 73-57 to put the icing on the cake.

Edgefold No2 continued their winning ways but only 3-2 at bottom-placed Bolehill No2.
Josh Dakin set the ball rolling but Paul Young took a black ball decider to equalise before wins from Martin Barwick and Trevor Wright sealed the deal.
Young however, added another black ball success as he teamed up with Owen Williams to take the concluding doubles leg.

Bolehill No1 took the first three games all on the black as they defeated Edgefold No3 4-1 with Colin Marchington, Ian Doe and Simon Zoppi all coming out on the right side of tight encounters.
Sam Kniveton got the home side on the board after a ding dong battle but Doe and Ricki Slack controlled the remaining pairs contest.

Clay Cross Brotherhood No2 moved into fourth place courtesy of their own 4-1 win over Belper Royal British Legion.
Andrew Bailey, Lee Shaw and Joe Roseman all registered victories with solid performances and although Paul Jarrett pulled one back, Callum Greenfield and Damian Woodward teamed up to add the pairs leg in commanding style.

Crich Comrades scored an excellent 4-1 home victory over Clay Cross No1 with some high scoring jinks from Paul Trevett, John Magill and Nick Berry (Clay Cross Brotherhood sponsored Player of the Week) who all reached the eighty points plus mark.
Berry and Ade Smith also added the doubles after Graham Jones was on target for the visitors.

After a lean run by their standards, Edgefold No1 bounced back to form with a 5-0 home triumph over Alfreton Palmer Morewood No1.
Steve Burton (27 break) amassed a century points haul as he took the third frame to seal overall victory and added a run of 25 in the concluding pairs match to complete the nap hand while Duncan Harwood and Rob Muxlow also recorded runs of 21 with Tommy Smith the other victor.

Highlight of the competitions was a superb 72 break in the OMYA Cup from Clay Cross stalwart Duncan Waring, who gained perfect position on yellow with the colours on their spots only for the blue to wobble around the pocket and stay out when set for a possible century in his 3-2 quarter-final defeat of Justin Weller.

Just one match in the Classic Gas Bodyshop Billiards League saw Bolehill Institute defeat Whitworth Institute 13-6.
