EDGEFOLD No3 STUN THEIR No1 TEAM COUNTERPARTS

ROY TAYLOR ... singles and doubles wins
EDGEFOLD No3 stunned their illustrious counterparts and consecutive league champions Edgefold No1 in the all-Matlock club derby as they came from behind to secure a 3-2 verdict in the T & M Motors Snooker League.
Robert Muxlow had put his team ahead with a 69-36 scoreline in the opener but excellent wins for Conrad Spencer (57-40) and Roy Taylor (63-40) turned the game on its head soon afterwards.
Tommy Smith equalised to make it 2-2 but Taylor and Spencer confirmed their fine form on the evening as they combined splendidly for a 72-31 success and the overall victory.

Another tight game saw Alfreton No1 overcome Clay Cross No2 3-2, with the match also going down to the final doubles leg where John and Cole Smith put in a stellar performance to seal an 80-25 success.
John had earlier levelled after brother Des had taken the opener on the black before Mark Bower and Andrew Bailey had temporarily put the home side into the ascendancy.

There was a tighter deciding leg on School Lane as Bolehill No1 edged out Crich Comrades 3-2 with Ricki Slack and Ian Birks taking the pairs leg on the pink for a 67-53 triumph.
Colin Marchington had secured the opener for his ninth win in eleven but Paul Trevett's superb pot into a baulk pocket levelled on the black  and then John Magill's equally impressive yellow to pink pot-fest from unlikely angles saw them in front at 2-1.
Birks calmed the storm however as Bolehill surged back in the remaining singles and doubles.

Belper Royal British Legion took a 3-2 win from Bolehill No2 but not before Dale Shaw took the first frame 67-66.
However, the next three singles legs all went the way of the visitors courtesy of Paul Jarrett, Wayne Shooter and Mark Newby before Mick Bunting and Paul Young edged a tight pairs frame at the end.

At the top of the table, there were good wins for both Edgefold No2 and Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2.
The Matlock side extended their lead slightly to six points as they took a maximum haul off hitherto third-placed Tansley Potters with Reece Johnstone, who had notched breaks of 55,47 and 37 in a recent individual match, continuing in the same vein with a run of 35, making him the obvious choice for Clay Cross Brotherhood sponsored Player of the Week.
Josh Dakin top scored on the night where Tansley struggled to get any kind of foothold in a 5-0 defeat.

Alfreton No2 saw off Clay Cross No1 4-1 with Adam Cupit the star turn with breaks of 38 and 32 while contesting singles and doubles legs.
Young Kai Hopkins had given the hosts the lead with a 64-24 win while the visitors had to wait until the fourth frame before Duncan Waring registered with a hard fought 79-63 verdict.

In the  Classic Gas Bodyshop Billiards League, Whitworth Institute were involved in two close matches, as they tied 10-10 with Mayfield Institute before being edged out 9-8 at Bolehill Institute.
The former game saw all four players amongst the breaks, with Mark Jennings' superb 51 the best of them despite him tasting defeat to Rob Lowe (32 break) on the night. Keith Gregory and Jim McCann also had runs of 34 and 32 respectively.
In the second match McCann reeled off breaks of 49,48 and 33.

Meanwhile, Mayfield Institute progressed to the final of the Captains Cup (Billiards) as they defeated Tansley Potters by a decisive margin.

EDGEFOLD No2 QUICKLY BACK IN THE GROOVE IN LEAGUE

MARTIN BARWICK
THE T & M MOTORS SNOOKER LEAGUE sprung back into action following the Christmas and competition breaks, and Edgefold No2 were quickly back into winning ways with a 3-2 home victory over Belper Royal British Legion.

Mark Newby secured the opener on the black for the Legionnaires but Reece Johnstone (21 break) equalised before Martin Barwick with a 60-12 verdict put the home side ahead.
Scott Brooks took the next 72-37 to ensure overall success before Newby and Steve Bullock took a tight doubles frame to reduce the arrears.
Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 and Tansley Potters lie joint second at the half-way stage, five points behind the leaders but both have a game in hand after the teams had contrasting fortunes this week.
Tansley defeated Edgefold No3 4-1 with Joe Neville suffering his first league defeat after Roy Taylor came from needing two snookers at one stage to snatch it on the black but Radford Neville amassed 99 points in the next and the Hawkins, Joe and Steve, also hit back strongly for 3-1.
The pairs also went the way of the hosts with Neville (R) and Hawkins (S) doing the business.
The all-Alfreton derby went the way of the No1 team, who defeated their higher-placed No2 counterparts 3-2.
Brothers Des and John Smith soon had their side 2-0 ahead with scorelines of 72-60 and 76-43 respectively before Jack Lowe and Ben Monk pulled their side level at 2-2.
However, the in-form Smith duo were back to take the doubles leg 73-37 and upset the title challengers.
Bolehill No1 won 3-2 at Clay Cross Brotherhood No2 with Colin Marchington and Ricki Slack (24 break) putting them two up before John Roseman (29 break) pulled one back.
Ian Doe made it 3-1 with Callum Greenfield having some cursed luck with several unforeseen in-offs before Roseman (Clay Cross Brotherhood sponsored player of the week) and Andrew Bailey reduced the deficit in the doubles leg.
Crich Comrades upset last season's champs Edgefold No1 3-2 with Nick Berry and Paul Hubbard each scoring convincing wins before Rob Muxlow and Duncan Harwood pulled the Matlock side level.
However, Berry and Hubbard continued their excellent form in the pairs contest, taking the frame by 80-34.
The other contest saw Clay Cross Brotherhood No1 overcome Bolehill No2 3-2 with Graham Jones in fine form, notching breaks of 25,22 and 22 as well as amassing 98 points in his singles leg.
Dale Shaw and Mick Bunting were successful for the vanquished but Jones teamed up with Tony Blant to seal the deal in the doubles after Ian McKay, playing a second frame under the extra handicap due to player shortages, had levelled at 2-2.
In the Classic Gas Bodyshop Billiards League, Tansley Potters defeated Whitworth Institute 11-7 with Joe Neville notching a run of 34 and Steve Hawkins also successful.
