MATLOCK CONS UPSET THE FORM BOOK IN CUP SEMI

RICHARD DEAKIN ... starring role for MATLOCK CONS
THE Captains Cup (Team Aggregate) semi finals were held this week with top of the league Edgefold No 1 hosting bottom placed Matlock Cons but the result was not as some might expect with the underdogs pulling off a convincing victory by 96 points on the overall aggregate.
Gareth Johnson came back to haunt his old team mate Richard Ferguson, taking the opener 63-36 before the ultra reliable Andy Russell (breaks of 38 and 30) edged his side ahead after the next.
However, large margin wins by Cons captain Richard Deakin and then Jack Kay put their team on the brink of victory and that was confirmed when the home pairing could only gain a narrow verdict in the concluding doubles.

Belper Strutt No 1 also booked their place in the final as they defeated Alfreton Palmer Morewood by 29 points with Mark Newby and Wayne Shooter holding the lead in the final doubles after some closely contested singles frames of which Alfreton's Simon Mayes scored the only success for the visitors.

In the Jimmy Harper Plate, the Bolehill teams had contrasting fortunes as they entertained Jaxx Q Club and Matlock Club respectively.
The No 1 team defeated the Belper line-up by 55 points with Mark Gwynne-Jones and Andrew Brough turning things around after narrow wins for Craig Sheppard and Devon Neave.
But the No 2 team went down by 97 points to Matlock Club, for whom Graeme Wood and Paul Bryan were in excellent form.

Steve Bullock and Mark Newby are the first confirmed finalists in the pairs knockout after a 3-2 black ball win over Paul Bryan and Mick McFall.
