THERE was a  right-royal battle for local bragging rights as Clay Cross No1 and No2  teams locked horns in the latest round of T & M Motors Snooker League fixtures as a pre-cursor to their upcoming team knockout quarter final which is just around the corner.
Callum Greenfield (36 break) was in fine form first up for the No2 outfit as he recorded a 73-24 verdict although veteran dual ex-county champion Graham Jones hit back strongly to equalise with a 67-20 riposte.
The No2 team again nudged themselves in front with John Roseman's runs of 32 and 25 proving crucial to his 71-54 success and Mark Bower (Clay Cross Brotherhood sponsored Player of the Week) sealed the deal with an excellent 75-34 defeat of Duncan Waring in frame four.
Jones teamed up with Tony Blant for a black-ball success in the concluding doubles leg to reduce the final margin to 3-2.

At the top of the table, Edgefold No2 continued on their merry way with a 4-1 defeat of Edgefold No3 with Reece Johnstone edging a hard-fought opener and Josh Dakin making it 2-0 on the black.
Martin Barwick's 57-43 win continued the narrative of the league leaders being made to work hard for the points and indeed Roy Taylor got one back for the underdogs in the next with a 60-39 success.
Nevertheless, Dakin and Trevor Wright wrapped up a 79-32 pairs success in the remaining leg.

Alfreton Palmer Morewood No2 remain second still six points adrift with a game in hand after their own 4-1 defeat of Belper Royal British Legion.
Paul Sainsbury put them on the right path with a 60-46 success before Jack Lowe's 70-12 triumph made it two soon afterwards.
Wayne Shooter pulled one back but Ben Monk (28 break) sealed the deal and then teams up with Lowe to add the pairs contest to the winning roster.

Bolehill No1 are up to third after a 4-1 home win against last seasons champs Edgefold No1 who have hit a sticky patch since losing Richard Ferguson to injury.
Ian Doe just got the better of a ding dong opening frame before Duncan Harwood put in an excellent performance to level with a 59-8 romp in the next.
Simon Zoppi and Ricki Slack took the next couple of frames with a bit to spare however, and then the pair came from well behind to nick the doubles with Zoppi doubling the black home to put the icing on the cake.

In the other match, Alfreton Palmer Morewood No1 saw off Crich Comrades 4-1 with Des Smith top scoring and Andrew Haggarty on target in both singles and doubles contests, while Paul Trevett registered for the Tramwaymen.

Jack Lowe notched a break of 46 as he and partner John Smith edged past Sam Kniveton and Fin Harvey 3-2 in the Denis Morton Pairs Handicap Trophy quarter final.

Meanwhile, the Kenworthy Cup billiards scotch doubles semi finals saw victories for Bolehill Institute's Ricki Slack and Andrew Brough and Tansley's Steve Hawkins and Joe Neville as they saw off Whitworth Institute 211-148 and Mayfield Institute 265-205 respectively, with the latter partnership recording runs of 36 and 31.
