EDGEFOLD TAKE THRILLER TO EARN A SECOND VICTORY

JAMES TRAVIS was in winning form for EDGEFOLD CLUB

CRICH No 1 and Edgefold Club served up the  thriller of the week in round six of T & M Motors Snooker League matches with the Matlock team taking the spoils on the deciding black for a hard fought 3-2 success.
Paul Trevett put the Tramwaymen ahead courtesy of a 59-51 verdict in the opener and when their experienced campaigner John Smith made it 2-0 soon afterwards, things were looking decidedly rosy for the home side.
But James Travis and then Sam Lavelle scored convincing successes to leave everything on the final doubles leg and Travis again came to the fore, teaming up with Rob Muxlow for a cliff-hanging 51-49 victory.

Elsewhere Bolehill No 1 defeated Matlock Golf Club 4-1 with Ricki Slack clearing the colours to edge out Tony Blant 67-64 in a battle of two hitherto undefeated cuemen  and Ian Birks scoring heavily in the next. Les Mooney was on target for the Golfers.
Belper Strutt Club therefore moved four points clear after their 5-0 clean sweep over Whitworth Institute with Mark Newby top scoring.

Alfreton Palmer Morewood defeated Bolehill No 2 3-2 with Andrew Haggarty making the win a certainty in frame three before the home team hit back with Mick Bunting taking his singles and doubles legs.

And Matlock Club continued their tidy start to the season with a 4-1 defeat of Crich No 2. Paul Bryan and Ady Lowe top scored respectively.

STRUTT CLUB EDGE HOME IN BATTLE FOR TOP SPOT

MARK NEWBY ... struck in singles and doubles for STRUTT CLUB

BELPER STRUTT CLUB moved level with Matlock Golf Club after defeating the latter 3-2 in a closely fought contest in this week's top of the table T & M Motors Snooker League clash.
Les Mooney, more widely known as a regular for Birdholme in the Chesterfield League, took the opener for the visitors before Wayne Shooter levelled.
In the battle of two hitherto undefeated players, Tony Blant came out on top against Steve Bullock 57-42 to stretch his record to four from four but Mark Newby struck back quickly to equalise.
And a superb display from Newby and Shooter in the concluding doubles leg saw them notch a century points haul to clinch the spoils in a pulsating nights snooker.

Both Crich teams enjoyed fine wins, the No 1 team defeating Alfreton Palmer Morewood 3-2, with Ade Smith's 91-57 success over Ben Monk the highlight along with a run of 25 from Paul Trevett, whilst Simon Mays notched a break of 30 for the visitors.

The No 2 outfit also excelled in a 4-1 triumph over Bolehill No 2 with Ady and Jack Lowe winning each of their singles and doubles legs after Ian Peacock had the hosts in front early doors.
Edgefold gained revenge for their 6-1 six red defeat at Matlock Club last week with a 4-1 salvo with Josh Lee top scoring after Graeme Wood struck in the opener for the hosts.

And Whitworth Institute put up a strong battle in defeat, going under 3-2 to Bolehill No 1, Ian Birks' fluked black ball decider proving pivotal whilst Philip Johnson and Mick Ferguson were in fine form for the Darley Dale cuemen.

COMPETITION DRAWS NOV THROUGH TO EARLY JAN

THE draws for the early rounds of the individual competitions and semi finals of the six red team cup were made recently.

As agreed by the committee, dates will be put on the matches again this season, though you can of course play them in advance of the set date by re-arranging with your opponent (see the contacts sheet, please give at least 48hrs notice and preferably more).

If absolutely necessary, you can re-schedule it within an extra 7 days, failing agreement you can apply to the match secretary for a further 7 days to play it.

If someone doesn't contact the opposition and then fails to show, they are eliminated obviously.

Matches to be played off the latest handicaps on the scheduled date of the ties (if any are delayed and handicaps change subsequently, the original match handicap will stand).

Matches to take place as drawn for the semi finals, and finals will take place at selected neutral venues or if agreed, toss of a coin for venue between captains, all matches best of 5 this season with finals best of 7 (except "B" final which is best of 5).
Note that players switching over from teams in same club are not eligible to play in semi finals or finals.

BOLEHILL No 1 AND MATLOCK GOLF CLUB TOP GROUPS

PAUL HOLMES top scored in doubles leg

THE final round of group matches in the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup took place this week and whilst Group B saw all three teams share the spoils by taking it in turns to beat each other, the honours in Group A and Group C went to Bolehill Institute No 1 and Matlock Golf Club.
Bolehill No 1 defeated Whitworth Institute 6-1 which means the Darley Dale cuemen bow out before the group stages. Mark Gwynne-Jones with a black ball success had his team ahead early doors but from thereon the home team reigned with Simon Zoppi and Ian Birks top scoring in the scotch doubles.
Matlock Club were coming off the back off a superb 6-1 win the previous night against now-eliminated Edgefold Club  (Paul Holmes and Dave Benson top scored in the pairs) as they travelled to the Golf Club but the home team proved sterner opposition and ran out 5-2 victors.
Graham Jones and Ian McKay won all three frames they contested whilst Graeme Wood was in fine form for the visitors.
Bolehill No 2 edged out Crich No 2 4-3 to force a three-way tie in Group B, Mick Bunting victorious in all three frames he was involved with and Martyn Caylow opening his seasonal account for the Tramwaymen.
Belper Strutt Club saw off Alfreton 4-3 in the other contest.
Also in a re-arranged league game, Crich No 1 defeated Whitworth 6-1 with John Smith and Philip Johnson top scoring respectively.

BRYAN AT THE DOUBLE AS MATLOCK CLUB DEFEAT CRICH

PAUL BRYAN ... pivotal singles and doubles successes

MATLOCK CLUB gained their second win of the T & M Motors Snooker League season courtesy of a 3-2 home success over Crich Comrades No 1.
Cliff Gould struck first for the visitors thanks to a 54-35 verdict and things were looking positively ros yfor them after Keith Fretwell's 53-27 triumph in the second.
However, the hosts fought back tenaciously with Paul Bryan's black ball decider the catalyst for a stirring comeback that saw Keith Manlove level before Bryan and Mick Mackfall teamed up for an emphatic deciding pairs romp.

Last seasons champs Matlock Golf Club have cointinued in similar vein after a second 5-0 success in the early skirmishes this time over the Tramwaymen's second team.
Graham Jones amassed 98 points whilst Tony Blant also impressed.

Belper Strutt Club defeated Edgefold 3-2 with Steve Bullock's black ball win proving vital after Rob Muxlow (22 and 20 breaks) had started strongly for the vanquished.

Bolehill No 1 took the first three frames against Alfreton Palmer Morewood, Colin Marchington and Andrew Brough taking black ball clinchers before returning cuemen Simon Mays and Ben Monk were instrumental in the visitors clawying the deficit back to the minimum margin.

Bolehill No 2 went one better courtesy of a 4-1 win at Whitworth Institute, with Keith Robertson top scoring after Darren Bunting had opened his account on the black. Philip Johnson scored a wide margin success for the home team.

GOLFERS COME OUT ON TOP IN BATTLE OF THE MAX MEN

IAN McKAY equalised for the Golfers

THE TWO teams who scored maximum points hauls in their opening T & M Motors Snooker League fixtures locked horns this week as Alfreton Palmer Morewood hosts reigning champions Matlock Golf Club and it was the visitors who took the spoils with a 3-2 victory.
Tom Broughton started the ball rolling impressively for the Amber Valley cuemen, taking the opener  61-37 before a crucial second frame went the way of the Golfers as Ian McKay scored a black ball verdict of 60-59.
Tony Blant soon made it 2-1 and then Graham Jones 3-1 before the two Smiths, John and Des, hit back for the hosts in the concluding doubles leg.

Bolehill Institute No 2 opened their account with a 4-1 defeat of Matlock Club. Keith Manlove was in barnstorming form for the hosts with a 75-16 success but three black ball deciders went the way of the victors with Keith Robertson and Kevin Munnelly both instrumental.

And Belper Strutt Club defeated Crich Comrades No 2 by the same scoreline. Mark Taylor on his league debut scored an impressive success for the Belper men and eventually it was down to Dale Shaw and Ady Lowe to prevent a whitewash by taking the final pairs frame.

In a delayed Bob McCartin Six Red Cup Group B encounter, Crich No 2 earned bragging rights over their No 1 team for the forthcoming period with a 4-3 win, Ady Lowe and John Smith top scoring respectively.

CRICH No 1 OPEN SIX RED CAMPAIGN WITH NARROW WIN

ADE SMITH kept up the pressure for CRICH No 1

SOME tight battles in the second round of Bob McCartin Six Red Cup matches and none fore so than the clash which saw Crich Comrades No 1 travel to and defeat Bolehill Institute No 2 4-3 as each team got their Group B campaign underway.
Nick Berry edged the opener for the visitors and Paul Trevett (22 break) made it 2-0 courtesy of a black ball decider in the next.
Home team captain Mick Bunting pulled one back before Ade Smith increased the Tramwaymen's lead to 3-1.
Bunting then teamed up with son Darren to snatch a black ball victory in the first of the scotch doubles legs but John Smith and Cliff Gould sealed victory for the visitors in the penultimate frame.
Bolehill No 1 edged out Belper Strutt Club 4-3 to move level on points in Group A where Ian Birks and Simon Zoppi's black ball win in frame six secured the match after the hosts had led 2-0 early doors.
Alfreton Palmer Morewood defeated Whitworth Institute 5-2 in the same group with Andrew Haggarty and Des Smith (21 break) in winning form whilst in Group C Matlock Golf Club sneaked past Edgefold Club 4-3 on Edge Road with Les Mooney involved in two breaks of 22 with Ian McKay and Paul Roe respectively in the scotch doubles.
