ROB MUXLOW ... run of 32 for EDGEFOLD CLUB

Sean Dobney (30 break) edged the visitors back ahead and with Josh Lee 17 in front with the last four balls remaining, they were poised for a noteworthy success.

STRUTT CLUB BACK FROM THE BRINK IN A THRILLER

WAYNE SHOOTER ... took the deciding re-spotted black
A THRILLING cliffhanger ending with a fluked re-spotted black separated the teams when last seasons champs Belper Strutt Club entertained title chasing Bolehill No 1 on Campbell Street in the latest round of T & M Motors Snooker League fixtures.
Colin Marchington took a hard fought opener 59-40 before the home team fought back strongly through Paul Jarrett (31 break) earning a 56-46 verdict and then Wayne Shooter with a more comfortable success in the next.
Ian Birks edged a tense fourth frame 45-34 to set up the concluding doubles leg and the Bolehill pairing of Birks and Slack looked to have done enough when leading by 29 with just 25 on the table.
But an excellent long green from Paul Jarrett set him up for a succinct snooker on the brown and after the narrowest of misses the home pairing could tie the scores.
Next time around Jarrett needed no second invitation, clearing up with four magnificent pots to force the re-spot which ultimately went Strutt's way when partner Shooter's aggressive long pot attempt flew around the table into a random pocket to decide a real thriller.

Leaders Crich won 3-2 at Edgefold with Ady Lowe notching breaks of 24 and 22 after Sean Dobney's 30 had rattled their feathers early doors.

And Matlock Club returned to the winners enclosure with a 3-2 victory at Bolehill No 2. Mick Mackfall took each of his singles and doubles legs, in the latter paired with Paul Bryan after Keith Robertson (23 break) had levelled at 2-2.

CUP HOLDERS START THEIR DEFENCE WITH APLOMB

PAUL JARRETT took a high quality second frame for BELPER STRUTT CLUB
THE first round of the Captains Cup Team Aggregate competition took place recently and last season's winners Belper Strutt Club negotiated their opening hurdle with a hard fought 312-289 victory at Bolehill Institute No 1.
Mark Newby took pink and black to take the opener 82-59 and in a high quality second frame, Paul Jarrett scored a 64-50 verdict to put his team 37 ahead.
Wayne Shooter then soon shot fifty ahead in the next but a 24 break from home team captain Ricki Slack brought him back into the contest and he eventually took the black to prevail 75-63 then Ian Birks also triumphed on the final ball 48-43 to leave the hosts just 20 behind on the doubles leg.
But Newby teamed up with Steve Bullock to batten down the hatches and sneak a 60-57 verdict to ensure the success.

TWO THRILLING COMEBACKS IN SIX RED SEMI FINALS

GRAHAM JONES put the Golf Club ahead in the opener
TWO thrilling semi finals of the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup each went down to the wire and the final will be contested by Matlock Golf Club and Crich Comrades later in the season.
Crich were staring down the barrel of a 3-1 deficit at home to Bolehill No 1 despite Nick Berry fluking the black in the opener after it jawed in one baulk pocket before running along the cushion into the opposite bag.
But Simon Zoppi (22 break), Ian Birks (on the black) and Ricki Slack put the visitors in the ascendancy soon afterwards.
However, the Tramwaymen were not to be denied and took all three scotch doubles legs with Nick Berry, Ade Smith and Ady Lowe producing some precision snooker in the tightest of situations.
Matlock Golf Club also trailed before taking the last two scotch doubles legs to prevail.
Graham Jones and Paul Roe had them 2-0 up before Paul Jarrett and Wayne Shooter edged two tight battles to level matters.
Steve Bullock and Mark Newby with a 41-14 verdict in the opening pairs frame had turned things on their head but it quickly swung back the other way again with Roe combining with firstly Jones and then Ian McKay to secure a fantastic triumph.
Bob McCartin Six Red Cup semi finals: Crich Comrades 4, Bolehill Institute No 1 3; Belper Strutt Club 3, Matlock Golf Club 4.

SHOOTOUT NIGHT IS A ROARING SUCCESS ONCE AGAIN

RICKI SLACK retained the Alan Hopkinson Trophy
THE 8th ANNUAL CHRISTMAS SHOOTOUT NIGHT was held this year at Belper Strutt Club for the first time and an excellent turnout of 13 competitors enjoyed another thoroughly enjoyable night of fast paced snooker with winners both old and new appearing on the rostrum.
The Alan Hopkinson Trophy for the six red snooker handicap went for the second year running to Bolehill Institute's Ricki Slack, who turned on his best form of the evening in the final to defeat Matlock Golf Club's Ian McKay.
The pivotal moment came in the semi final, with opponent Mark Newby 13 ahead with just pink and black remaining but Slack took both to force the re-spot and then sunk it despite chances for the Strutt man.
He had earlier come through contests with Keith Robertson and Gordon Critchlow en route to success.
STEVE HAWKINS and MARK NEWBY ... George Mills Trophy winners
Newby was also involved at the business end of the six red scotch doubles handicap event for George Mills Trophy.
He and partner Steve Hawkins (Hartington RBL) came through rounds with Chris Parker and Pete Davenport and Keith Robertson and John Moore to contest the final against Steve Bullock and Rob Devenport.
And this time he went all the way as Hawkins sunk the blue to leave their opponents requiring snookers which were not forthcoming.
CHARLIE HODGKINSON...speed king
Most of the thrills and spills come in the shape of the Eddie Lomas Trophy, a speed snooker event which features players on adjacent tables clearing the colours, with balls added or taken away according to the official handicaps.
And there was a popular winner as Charlie Hodgkinson of Matlock Golf Club showed all those years around the fairways have maintained his athleticism down to a tee as he proved conclusively to be the fastest cueman either side of Derby and Chesterfield.
He overcame Belper Strutt Club's Wayne Shooter. who had been similarly impressive in reaching the final, to lift the trophy after previous victories over Rob Devenport and Steve Hawkins.
Alan Hopkinson Trophy (six red snooker handicap): winner, Ricki Slack (Bolehill Institute 1); runner-up, Ian McKay (Matlock Golf Club).
George Mills Trophy (six red snooker scotch doubles handicap); winners, Steve Hawkins (Hartington RBL) and Mark Newby (Belper Strutt Club); runners-up, Steve Bullock  and Rob Devenport (both of Belper Strutt Club).
Eddie Lomas Trophy (speed snooker handicap): winner, Charlie Hodgkinson (Matlock Golf Club); runner-up, Wayne Shooter (Belper Strutt Club).
