BOLEHILL No 2 IN LINE FOR A QUICK SALVAGE MISSION

STEVE BULLOCK and MARK NEWBY ... hat-trick of successive pairs finals
BOLEHILL No 2, defeated in the six red cup final last week, quickly set up another opportunity of salvaging some silverware as they saw off Edgefold No 2 300-268 in the semi final of the Captains Cup team aggregate competition.
Mark Sayer gained a memorable win over hot to trot Rob Dicken in the opener before Ian Paecock increased the advantage.
Josh Lee put the hosts right back in the contest as he amassed a massive haul of 122 points but captain Mick Bunting restored the Bolehill advantage and that saw them over the line despite the efforts of Dicken and Lee in the concluding doubles leg.

Alfreton Palmer Morewood will be the final opposition, as they defeated Belper Strutt Club courtesy of a sterling team performance, 337-154.

Meanwhile, the Jimmy Harper Plate semi finals saw wins for Edgefold No 1, who held on by nine points on the final black 275-266 against Bolehill No 1 after taking a 51 points advantage from the opening two frames.
Rob Muxlow was one of the victors, and also took the final black after Mark Gwynne Jones and Ian Birks had almost pulled it out of the fire.

Matlock Golf Club defeated Matlock Club 359-273 with Ian McKay notching three breaks of 20+ en route to amassing 95 points while Keith Manlove and Graham Jones (30 break) enjoyed a high scoring encounter which went to the home captain 92-84.

Steve Bullock and Mark Newby reached the final of the Denis Morton Pairs Handicap Trophy for the third successive season and will be hoping to go one better than their runners-up spot of the last two years after they accounted for Neil Parkinson and Rob Muxlow 3-1.

BOLEHILL No 1 TURN ON THE STYLE IN SIX RED CUP FINAL

BOLEHILL INSTITUTE No 1, Bob McCartin six red cup champions,
L-R: Ian Birks, Ricki Slack, Simon Zoppi, Andrew Brough.
Also played en route: Colin Marchington.
THE battle of the Bolehill teams in the final of the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup finished in a 4-0 success for the No 1 outfit over their No 2 counterparts with Lady Luck not favouring the vanquished on the night.
The teams had met previously in the opening group stage when it went to the final black as indeed did the opening league clash but on this occasion no such nail-biting was necessary.

Ricki Slack produced an excellent run of pots from green to pink in the opener to lead by seven with just black remaining, and after Martin Forster had double kissed on his attempted safety, Slack dispatched the required ball for a 54-40 success.

Andrew Brough continued his fine form from the last game with a 34-8 verdict over Keith Robertson in frame two to increase the lead before a tight battle ensued between Simon Zoppi and Ian Peacock.

Peacock had seemingly taken the frame to the black in potting the pink but the cue ball drifted into the opposite corner pocket and eventually it was Zoppi who sealed the deal with a 52-36 scoreline for 3-0.

Surely Mick Bunting was set to reduce the arrears in the fourth frame, leading by 29 with just 25 on the table but a succession of single pots from opponent Ian Birks and then a finely judged snooker on the pink forced the penalty points required.

Eventually it came down to the final black, and Bunting produced the shot of the night, ramming the ball home into a corner pocket only for the cue ball to cruelly go twice across and follow the black into the same bag.

The No 2 team will hope for better fortune this week in their upcoming Captains Cup semi final.

Meanwhile, Ian Birks and Colin Marchington can celebrate a double success as they are confirmed as the Presidents Cup winners, for the highest scotch doubles break of the season of 35 in the group stages.

Bob McCartin Six Red Cup final: Bolehill Institute No 1 4, Bolehill Institute No 2 0.

RUSSELL BOOKS FINAL PLACE IN THRILLER AT EDGEFOLD

CLASH OF THE TITANS ... Ben Monk's 94 break couldn't quite see off Andy Russell (right)
A DUAL century break maker in former years, Strutt Club's Ben Monk almost made it a coveted hat trick before rattling the pink on 94 with a possible 140+ available during his OMYA Cup Individual Scratch semi final with Edgefold's Andy Russell, who also notched a ton himself last season.
However, it was Russell who prevailed 3-2 after a pulsating contest, his top break consisting of 34, to take him to a second successive final in the event.

In the Harriotts Sweet Chariot Event Planning Snooker League, Belper Strutt Club moved two points clear thanks to a 4-1 win at Matlock Club.
Graeme Wood with a 57-13 triumph had the hosts in front but from thereoin in the Strutt juggernaut moved into overdrive with Wayne Shooter, Steve Bullock and Justin Weller reeling off successive frames before Bullock and Mark Newby put the icing on the cake in the concluding doubles.

Bolehill Institute No 1 fell 3-2 at home to Matlock Golf Club. Ricki Slack (32 break earning him the Viva Resturant highest break accolade) was in excellent form for the hosts but black ball victories for Ian McKay (on a respot) and Graham Jones (by a solitary point from 35 adrift) proved pivotal before Nick Kay and Jack Lynch secured the deciding pairs leg.

Bolehill No 2 were also in winning form, 4-1 at Edgefold No 2. Keith Robertson (30 break) and Martin Forster (28 break and this weeks Mick Hodgkinson Transport player of the week) won both frames they contested  while Tom Chambers was on the mark for the vanquished.

Two teams on the cusp of the title race clashed as Alfreton Palmer Morewood edged out Edgefold No 1 3-2.
Ralph Edgson's black ball win for the hosts was crucial in frame two while Andy Russell, enjoying a successful week, top scored for the visitors.

BOLEHILL No 2 COME FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT STRUTT

MICK BUNTING played a captain's role for BOLEHILL No 2
THIS week's instalment of Harriotts Sweet Chariot Event Planning Snooker League matches saw two enthralling turnarounds, a heroic performance and an emphatic home win as the race for the title gets even hotter.
Leaders Belper Strutt Club let a 2-1 lead slip at home to Bolehill Institute No 2 after Wayne Shooter and Paul Jarrett (Mick Hodgkinson Transport player of the week with a 90pts haul) had taken two of the first three frames.
Ian Peacock took a black ball decider inbetween those efforts, and ultimately he took the deciding doubles leg with captain Mick Bunting, who had made it 2-2 with an excellent display in the previous frame.

Bolehill No 1 joined Strutt at the top, coming from 0-2 down to win 3-2 against Edgefold No 2. Rob Dicken continued in unstoppable form, winning his 11th match in 12 outings but Ian Birks took his singles and doubles frames to pull it out of the fire for the hosts.

Edgefold No 1 moved just two points off the top with a 5-0 whitewash of Matlock Club. Andy Russell and Rob Muxlow won both frames they contested during the evening.

STRUTT CLUB BACK ON TOP AFTER WIN AT EDGEFOLD

PAUL JARRETT top scored for BELPER STRUTT CLUB
JUST three matches in this week's Harriotts Sweet Chariot Event Planning Snooker League but there was still a big impact on the placings at the top of the table and Belper Strutt Club once again found themselves in pole position by just a single point.
They defeated Edgefold No 2 4-1 in Matlock with Paul Jarrett top scoring in frame two and Mark Newby wrapping things up in the next.
Duncan Harwood, deputising, was on target for the hosts.

Previous leaders Bolehill No1 fell 3-2 at home to third placed Alfreton Palmer Morewood, but for much of the night it looked like things would be much worse.
Jamie Rowland took the opener 88-52 with an excellent display of potting before father Kevin with an emphatic 68-16 scoreline added the second, in doing so winning his ninth match in twelve outings and earning himself Mick Hodgkinson Transport player of the week.
Ralph Edgson looked set to make it three in the next but with pink hanging over the corner pocket, he attempted to clip it in cushion first to avoid the possible in off, but failed to make contact and left Andrew Brough a surprised looking victor.
Simon Mayes made no mistake in the next to make it 3-1 however, and only a 22 break from Ricki Slack with a clearance from brown onwards rescued the doubles frame 63-59  to reduce the deficit to the minimum margin.

Bolehill No 2 also fell 4-1 at reigning champions Edgefold No 1, who took the first four frames, Rob Muxlow (28 break) top scoring and securing the Viva Italian Restaurant highest weekly break accolade. Ian Peacock and Martin Forster thwarted the whitewash in the concluding doubles leg.

Andy Russell notched a 54 break as he progressed to the semi finals of the Open Individual Handicap competition.
